Position: 911 Telecommunicator
Certification: Certified or Non-Certified encouraged to apply
Requirements:
- Proficient typing skills
- Ability to work afternoon, evening, overnight shifts, or a combination of shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Receive and process emergency calls
- Gather and record accurate information from callers
- Determine the nature and priority of each call
- Dispatch appropriate emergency personnel or resources
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations
- Monitor and track the location of emergency responders using GPS and mapping systems
- Maintain accurate records of all calls and actions taken
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a telecommunicator or in a similar role is preferred but not required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient in data entry and operating computer systems
- Familiarity with dispatching procedures and phone systems or the ability to learn
- Knowledge of first aid procedures is a plus
- Ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts calmly and effectively
- Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute
- Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a plus
