Salary and Benefits:
Starting Salary for a Communications Officer (Dispatch) is $33,000 annually. The employee benefits include retirement benefits with the Florida Retirement System, medical, dental and life insurance, leave accrual and paid holidays. Voluntary family coverage is also available.
Job Summary:
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified candidates for a Full-time 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator within the Communications Division.
911 Public Safety Telecommunicators respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service using a computer aided dispatch terminal for entering call data and radios for dispatching/transmitting information to responding units along with other tasks that are deemed necessary.
Requirements:
The position requires the ability to utilize computer monitors, printers, radios, telephones and must be able to correctly type. Must be able to work at a fast pace with little to no control over the incoming workload. Must be able to maintain intense concentration and attention for extended periods of time. In addition, applicant must successfully pass a drug test and oral interview. The Florida State Exam for Public Safety Telecommunicator must be taken and passed after an on-the-job training block completed. This testing will be administered by the State of Florida, Department of Health.
Abilities:
Communicate verbally in a distinct, clear, concise, controlled, and pleasant manner in a wide variety of circumstances with good dictation in a well-modulated voice. Ability to type at a sufficient speed to accurately complete information for computer aided dispatch system. Ability to simultaneously communicate, interpret communications, and enter data into a computer terminal with speed and accuracy. Ability to understand oral and written instructions. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to wear department issued uniform. Ability to work any shift. Ability to handle irate and hysterical callers in a calm, courteous, and professional manner. Ability to work under stress and to exercise discretion and independent judgment in a variety of situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and an economically and ethnically diverse general public. Skill in the use of telephone and computer equipment. Skill in hand/eye coordination. Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
At a minimum, successful applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a United States Citizen
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Pass a drug test
- Pass a background investigation and fingerprinting, including but not limited to: no felony convictions; no misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement; no misdemeanor conviction of domestic violence; no dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
