Summary Statement
Zoo Boise is one of the most popular attractions in Idaho as well as a living science facility that is home to over 300 animals from 100 various species. Zoo Custodian:
- Performs maintenance and repairs on a set schedule.
- Prepares reserved sites for events.
- Ensures reserved sites are free and clear of trash, in proper working order, and in clean usable condition.
- Maintains detailed records of related work and areas of vandalism.
- Work is performed under general supervision and direction.
Essential Functions
Performs custodial maintenance throughout City of Boise parks. Cleans restroom and shelter facilities. Picks up trash and ensures receptacles are emptied and in working order. Inspects and replaces damaged trash cans. Performs plumbing maintenance and repairs on sinks and toilets. (45%)
Coordinates with supervisor to schedule reservation site preparations. Prepares sites for events. Inspects area around reservation site, and performs litter pickup within site vicinity. (40%)
Ensures detailed records are entered into logs. Records incidents of vandalism, replacement of trash cans, site cleanup, and schedule of work performed. Cleans vandalism on effected areas and notifies vandalism specialist of areas that require special attention. (15%)

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
One year of experience performing maintenance or janitorial services.
Working knowledge of cleaning practices of parks such as mopping restroom facilities and graffiti removal; facilities maintenance procedures to include minor plumbing and electrical repair; hand and power tools such as power washers and drills.
Ability to perform varied facilities maintenance and cleaning; work in and around public restroom facilities; safely operate all equipment and tools required; safely utilize related protective gear and safety equipment; identify and prioritize additional tasks; operate a computer with demonstrated proficiency using related database, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications at an appropriate level for efficient job performance; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City of Boise employees and the public; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Two years of experience performing custodial maintenance in a parks and recreation environment.
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid Idaho driver's license.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds, occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate, occasionally loud and rarely very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards and work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. Employees work in icy conditions during winter time; navigate uneven turf and walkways; and work in dog off leash areas. cleaning in environments that are contaminated with bodily fluids. Blood borne pathogen defense training will be administered.
This position works: evenings, weekends, and holidays.
