Job Title: Head School Custodian
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $18.83-$21.65/hour DOE and specific school placement
Location: Boise, ID and Meridian, ID
Position Summary: The Head School Custodian is responsible for supervising and performing routine custodial, maintenance, cleaning, and grounds keeping tasks within school buildings and grounds. As the Night Supervisor, the individual will assume the role of crew leader, providing supervision to Custodian level employees. The work involves collaborating with the building principal and teachers to maintain a team approach, working under the direct supervision of the Head Custodian.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Coordination:
- Schedule and monitor building cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Exercise on-site supervision and evaluation of custodial staff.
- Provide direction to custodial staff members.
- Prepare work orders for repairs.
- Custodial and Maintenance Tasks:
- Sweep and mop floors in various areas including restrooms, classrooms, hallways, offices, and more.
- Vacuum carpeted floors; strip and wax floors; shampoo carpets on maintenance schedule.
- Dust and wipe off surfaces, including chalkboards and whiteboards.
- Clean and sanitize restroom areas.
- Maintain restroom supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, and soap.
- Wash walls, windows, and surface areas.
- Empty and clean trash containers; transport bagged waste to outside receptacles.
- Clean light fixtures; replace bulbs.
- Dust and clean air vents; change air filters.
- Clean and polish mirrors, wood, and special surfaces.
- Handle spills, spot-clean carpets, and remove graffiti as needed.
- Clean and maintain custodial equipment.
- Maintain sufficient inventory of cleaning supplies.
- Assist in moving and setting up furniture and equipment.
- Groundskeeping and Outdoor Tasks:
- Maintain grounds, including sidewalks, parking lots, common areas, playgrounds, and planting areas.
- Perform snow removal duties, including sanding and salting walkways.
- Pick up litter and trash; mow grass; weed planting areas; irrigate.
- Security and Building Maintenance:
- Lock and unlock buildings; check panic bolts to maintain security.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, painting, and classroom repairs.
- Set up and break down after special events.
- Respond to emergency situations on-call after regular work hours.
- General Responsibilities:
- Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of cleaning and maintaining public buildings.
- Preparation, use, and disposal of chemical cleaning agents.
- Appropriate use of cleaning agents for varied surface types.
- Safety procedures when cleaning and moving furniture.
- Methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of grounds and yard maintenance.
- Supervisory and employee training methods.
Ability to:
- Follow written and oral instructions and observe department policies and procedures.
- Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs to custodial and groundskeeping equipment.
- Supervise and train employees.
- Communicate effectively with the public and other employees.
- Read, write, and comprehend English
- Complete basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Acceptable Experience and Training:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Two (2) years of school custodial experience preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.

- Sufficient dexterity, strength, body flexibility, balance, and personal mobility, with or without reasonable accommodation.
