We are looking for a creative, resourceful and enthusiastic individual to work with families and youth of all ages at our library. This position involves interacting with the public at both our Kids' World desk and the Hub (teen space) to connect our community to books, movies, music, games, programs and all the information resources the library has to offer.
This individual will enjoy answering quirky questions from our young customers, can work well on a team of dedicated library staff, and is interested in gaining experience through assisting with library programs and outreach opportunities. An ideal candidate will also have a flexible schedule and be an effective communicator in order to support the team and our customers.
Requirements & Skills:
- Positive and welcoming communication skills in order to excel in Our Culture
- Proficient in using technology (e.g. computers, tablets, internet) to assist customers
- Strong written and verbal communications, including presentations
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Familiarity with principles of classroom management and childhood development concepts
- A good working knowledge of books, movies and pop culture for kids and teens preferred
- Experience working with youth and multicultural audiences preferred
- Experience in customer service and group instruction preferred
Education
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in related field where applicable for targeted customer group, format or topic area.
Hours and Scheduling
Part-time position, approximately 4-12 hours per week. Saturday availability required and Monday-Friday evening availability preferred. Flexibility in scheduling is needed to support the team and our customers.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary $18.55 - $23.19/hour depending on qualifications. No benefits.
