Youth Residential Safety Specialist/Residential Security Specialist - Shelter & Long Term Group Home 
Portland, OR
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Overnight: 
Saturday -Tuesday 4:30 pm- 3:00 am


JOB SUMMARY:

Works a fixed post position in the Facility Central Control Area of the program. Responsible for duties associated with the Safety and Security of residents and staff and assists Milieu Counselors with some clerical aspects.

The ideal candidates understand the importance program policy and procedure, including the importance of Safety and Security in a residential setting. They will communicate effectively with the youth, in a tactful and thoughtful manner. The ability to maintain composure during stressful situations is crucial competency in this position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor movement of workers and youth within the facility, efficiently communicate with on duty staff regarding locations and movements of youth, may assign staff to areas of need as necessary. Maintain informed of youth run risk levels and safety plans.
  • Maintain Safety and Security of the physical infrastructure by performing routine and random security duties.
  • Operate communication equipment including closed circuit video, staff radios, and maintain surveillance of all occupied areas.
  • Issue staff radios and maintains key accountability.
  • Inform on duty staff via radio communication of any Safety and Security issues while preventing and detecting security breaches. Intervene and report on any remarkable unauthorized behaviors of the residential population.

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required (Diploma, GED or college transcripts required step of hiring process) 
  • At least one year of experience working with youth, preferably in a monitored or highly secured, residential facility

 

Valued Experience:

  • Experience working in a secure center setting or loss prevention
  • Criminal justice coursework
  • Bilingual Spanish

 

Other Requirements:

  • Pass a DHS criminal history background
  • CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire and kept current
  • May work outside normal shift hours based on agency needs

 

STARTING PAY RANGE: 

$19.56- $20.81

Bilingual (Spanish): $21.32- $22.68

About the Program: ORR Immigrant Youth Services - LTGH  

Our Long-Term Home provides services to up to 20 adolescents at one time (ages 14-17 years old) in a co-ed residential facility setting. The youth, typically from Latin America and occasionally other countries live in our Long-Term Group Home, while they await family reunification or other placement options. They attend public school and other community activities. 

 ABOUT THE PROGRAM: ORR Immigrant Youth Services - Shelter
Our shelter is well equipped to comfortably care and provide support for up to 50 youth at a time. Through our residential facility, the youth have access to education, and mental health services onsite. The program serves adolescent boys and girls, (11 – 17 years of age) The youth primarily arrive from Latin American countries, occasionally from other countries such as South East Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa

 Residential ORR Programs through Federal Mandate must provide proof of immunity including the following vaccinations that are typically received in childhood: MMR, Varicella, and DTaP.
