HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.  

The Youth Employment Coordinator will perform a variety of administrative and supervisory duties to support the SYEP/WLG Program.  The Youth Employment Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, organization, evaluation, coordination, and management of assigned educational and workforce programs. Work with the Program Director in developing project plans, budgets, and schedules. Coordinate with management in preparing project proposals and contractual documents. He/she is committed to positive youth development principles and creates a collaborative environment of inquiry, reflection, and discovery in which youth feel comfortable sharing and challenging themselves. The program goals include: 

  • Developing young people's work readiness and social and job skills.
  • Providing safe work environments.
  • Adhering to agency policies and procedures.
  • Providing integral support services across program units.
  • Managing programmatic recordkeeping.

Rate of Pay:$25.00

Work Schedule: Flexible between the hours of 8 am-11 pm

Work Location: Varies depending on company needs. The main Location is 23-16 30th Avenue, Astoria, NY 11102 (Bronx Early College Academy 250 E 164th St, The Bronx, NY 10456, Bronxdale High School 925 Astor Ave, The Bronx, NY 10469, Must be able to work hybrid throughout the Bronx).

Major Functions/Accountabilities:

  • The education/Youth Employment Coordinator will assist the Program Director in all aspects of a successful program. 
  • Responsible for on-site, day-to-day supervision of programs, services, and activities funded directly through SYEP/WLG.
  • Act as an on-site supervisor.
  • Act as liaison to worksites.
  • Work with the SYEP/WLG Program Director to ensure prompt and accurate submission of enrollment, payroll, and evaluations of SYEP/WLG participants.
  • Train and supervise Education/Employment Specialist, Job Readiness Counselors, Program Aides, Site Supervisors, SYEP/WLG participants assigned to the SYEP/WLG office.
  • Monitor program activities including recruitment, registration, and collection of documentation, orientation, payroll, and program implementation.
  • Responsible for the development of all program educational curricula such as orientation, CareerClue, and project-based learning.
  • Prepare and maintain documents for all education plans and implement and maintain all administrative processes.
  • Implements project-based experiences, service learning projects, and in-classroom workforce development workshops.
  • Maintain and update program files such as worksite and participant folders.
  • Provide career coaching and counseling.
  • Assist with participant placement. In addition to assisting with participant placement, it will be necessary to inform the Program Director of any changes that are made for proper record keeping.
  • Organize and log in timesheets in an orderly fashion.
  • Troubleshoot any issues that may arise at work sites and help participants and employers to come to a mutual agreement upon resolutions.
  • Report all issues regarding SYEP/WLG participants and worksites to the Program Director and Job Developer.
  • Assist with program payroll distribution.
  • Intervene as needed to remove participants from work sites and handle potential reassignment.
  • Responsible for the entry of participant timesheets and signing them at the end of the pay period.
  • Responsible for monitoring ADP time and attendance, and approving timesheets at the end of the pay period.
  • Prepare all “back pay” requests and submit to Program Director for approval.
  • Responsible for the success of positive and innovative service delivery.
  • Responsible for the evaluations of all staff at the end of the program.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development training as required
  • Complete Basecamp check-ins twice per day
  • Monitor and review projects/tasks on Basecamp. Assign tasks to teams on basecamp as needed.
  • Assist with any other program activity deemed necessary by the Program Director.

Requirements:

  • Ability and patience to work with youth, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
  • Travel within NYC: use public transportation or traverse city streets, occasionally ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Ability to work with the public and youth.
  • Remain in a stationary position at a workstation and use a computer at least 90% of the time.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement: AA/AS.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience working in the field of youth development or youth workforce development and developing project-based experiences.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word/Excel2019; One Drive; Google Drive demonstrated work proficiency with the Internet.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, math, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Flexibility in schedule and some evenings/weekends will be necessary.
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish a plus.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the commencement of employment or adhere to enhanced protocols if the Company determines your job position requires accessing a HANAC worksite.
