Position Reports To: Executive Director (ED)
Position Summary:
The Youth Development Specialist (YDS) is a member of the DoER Leadership Team consisting of the Executive Director, Program Director, Operations Director, Development Manager, Communications Manager, and Executive Assistant. The YDS works closely with the ED and other specialists to advise the organization at-large and program team on holistic techniques to promote the professional growth of young citizen artists and their families. The YDS plays an integral role, along with the Social Emotional Specialist (SELS), in helping students to discover their intrinsic motivation, build new skills, and prepare for high-school/college and career advancement.
Position Duties & Responsibilities:
- Co-design and implement the Creative Career Skills from the Specialist guides that include elements of leadership and life skills, college- and work-ready portfolios, guest speaker events with industry professionals, financial literacy, and other experiences that prepare youth for life during and after high school.
- Facilitate young citizen artists' learning of academic and professional skills such as but not limited to studying techniques, email etiquette, and high school and college applications.
- Mentor and guide young citizen artists and families individually and in groups on academic and career pathways while applying tools and techniques provided by SELS
- Follow-up communication with young citizen artists and families
- Attend required meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Position Qualifications & Experience:
- Strong interest in working in a community-based setting doing community-building work.
- Exceptional interpersonal & intrapersonal skills and commitment to representing Dorill’s mission, vision, and values with enthusiasm, warmth, and professionalism
- Strong desire/interest in working with kids and building connections with them.
- Knowledge of post-secondary education pathways in the arts
- Excellent organizational, critical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead with grace, humor, and accountability for self and others
- A willingness to multitask and meet pertinent deadlines
- Familiar with Google Workspace
- Expected to communicate effectively and efficiently with all team members.
Position Compensation:
- Job Type: Part-Time, $18 per hour
- Job Commitment: 10 Hours/Weekly
