Job description

With general guidance of the Program Director, the Youth Development Program Coordinator assists in managing the daily operations of 1-3 Y School Age Sites, and Summer Day Camp Sites. The Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with school district personnel (i.e. principal, teachers). This position will adhere to the child care policies and the goals of the YMCA, and directs each site in accordance with the mission statement of the YMCA of San Antonio and the standards of all regulatory agencies.
This position will receive a minimum of 3 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-Time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Household Membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists with the staffing of each out of school site and summer day camp. Will assist with the timekeeping and payroll approval for assigned staff.
  2. Implements and supervises an ongoing developmentally appropriate activity program/curriculum at each site.
  3. Conducts on-the-job training as needed and assists the Y School Age Program Administrative staff in all training events.
  4. Maintains the physical facility, restrooms, and grounds in a safe and sanitary manner.
  5. Implements and supervises the food service program for each site.
  6. Implements and supervises the health and safety/risk management program for each site.
  7. Secures and maintains all resources and supplies necessary for all daily site operations.
  8. Implements and supervises all administrative and recordkeeping procedures of each site.
  9. Plans and implements meetings with site staff and volunteers as necessary, to keep staff informed on all site management issues.
  10. Assures the site personnel use appropriate discipline techniques and assists staff in solving any problems.
  11. Acts as a liaison between the YMCA / Y School Age program and school district personnel, program participants and regulatory agency representatives.
  12. Meets as needed with participants and their families to assess the program's ability to meet the needs of the children and to resolve any problems.
  13. Meets periodically with school district personnel to evaluate the ongoing operations of the program and the school / YMCA partnership; attempting to avoid and/or resolve any problems relative to usage, programming, food service and daily operations.
  14. Supervises and participates in all regulatory inspections and works in consultation with Y School Age Program Administrative staff to correct any 'non-compliances' to regulatory standards.
  15. Assists the solution center in billing and collections and supervises all site procedures relative to the distribution of billing materials.
  16. Assists in the promotion of the Y School Age program and all other YMCA branch events.
  17. Performs all other assigned duties as requested by the Y School Age Program Administrative staff and attends all staff meetings and training sessions.
  18. Adheres to the child care policies and the goals of the YMCA, and directs each site in accordance with the mission statement of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, and the standards of all regulatory agencies.
  19. Assists in other districts as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. A High School Diploma or GED is required. A Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, CDA, Behavioral Science, or related field is preferred.
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  3. A minimum of 2 years experience working in a licensed childcare facility is required.
  4. Employee will need to qualify as a licensed director under H&HS standards .
  5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
    program activities.
  6. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
    with people from different backgrounds.
  7. Must be able to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with staff, YMCA members, and program participants.
  8. Incumbent must be a positive role model to children and display emotional maturity and stability at all times.
  9. Employee must have working knowledge of a Mac environment, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  10. Certifications required within the first week of hire: Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications.
  11. Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  12. Within first 120 days of hire, must complete all basic childcare and child abuse prevention training.
  13. A valid driver's license is required as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  1. Work is performed in a fast-paced office, childcare room, and outdoor environments. This position is required to work out of the Youth Development office and branch weekly.
  2. Incumbent must have the ability to communicate with staff, children and parents.
  3. This position requires high levels of attention and alertness.
  4. Visual acuity is required for child supervision.
  5. Repetitive stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required. Ability to stand and walk for long periods at a time is required, as well as, the ability to run and be able to participate in sports.
  6. Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
