POSITION:Youth Development Professional

REPORTS TO: Assistant Branch Manager

SALARY: $19.50 - $20.80

HOURS: Part Time - Up to 29 Hours Weekly

LOCATION: Al Davies Branch - 1620 S 17th St. Tacoma, WA 98405

We have been providing a safe, fun and positive environment at our sites with trained and dedicated professional staff for more than 81 years. POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Assistant Branch Manager and with direction from the Branch Manager, the Youth Development Professional will plan, implement, facilitate, and supervise activities and events in a specific program area. Research, test and model a variety of innovative, exciting new programs in specific core areas that meet the diverse interests and needs of members, their parents and the community. Interface with volunteers assigned to specific programs to ensure proper application. Promote safety of members, quality of programs and appearance of the Club at all times

FUNCTION/TASKS

  • Create a safe environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes; promote and stimulate program participation; provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Coordinate assigned program services and cooperative learning activities for youth that are both fun and instructional.
  • Effectively plan, lead, monitor and evaluate a variety of programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality of programs, gender and cultural diversity.
  • Supervise members in program area. Position yourself in program area to continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members. Focus on maintaining a safe, positive atmosphere for all youth.
  • Provide positive behavior guidance that supports the developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs of all members. Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with members, their parents and/or guardians, supervisor, staff, and volunteers by communicating effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 18 years of age; High School diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to comply with drug-free workplace policy.
  • Experience working directly with school aged youth and knowledge of Youth Development.
  • Knowledge of program planning/instruction, implementation and assessment; provide instruction, direction, coaching and guidance.
  • Implement and direct educational based activities for children of various ages and learning styles.
  • Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office, email, internet research, Google navigation.
  • Experience in tutoring and mentoring children or youth; motivate, engage, and manage behavioral challenges with peer mediation.
  • Work ethic to be responsible, accountable, provide follow up, complete tasks, and meet deadlines in a professional manner with accuracy and on schedule; regular and predictable attendance.
  • Must have the ability to be active and on your feet for a minimum of five hours each day, adapt to changes in a highly energetic work environment, complete other essential functions of the position and other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

To keep our staff safe we adhere to the CDC safety guidelines and remain in close communication with local health departments, program partners and local School Districts to work together to serve our youth in the safest way we can.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

High energy level; comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to get along with diverse personalities at all times displaying tact, maturity and flexibility; good reasoning abilities and sound judgment. Skills essential for successful communications include speaking and writing. Physical requirements include sight, hearing, being active and on your feet for a minimum of four hours; adapt to changes in a highly energetic work environment; other duties as assigned.

Environment of the position: both indoors and outdoors; possibility of adverse weather conditions; noise, dust, pollen and insects; including contact with the public. Possible contact with dissatisfied and/or abusive individuals.

  • Paid Sick Leave - In accordance with Washington Paid Sick Leave, you will accrue 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. You are eligible to use Paid Sick Leave after 30 days of continuous employment
  • 401(K) - Automatic Enrollment of 1% with up to a 4% match after one year of employment
  • Paid Vacation - Vacation accrual at .83 hours per pay period which totals one (1) week to begin accrual after 1 year of continuous employment.
  • Personal Equity Day - One (1) personal equity day (4 hours) annually after 3 months of employment.
