The individual in this role is tasked with operating a forklift or yard dog to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count materials. The Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient use of the vehicle and potentially performing Order Filler and Checker duties. Must safely load, transport, and unload structural fabrications and assemblies over short and long distances. Drivers must be familiar with construction site conditions and safety requirements. General responsibilities include maintaining proper logs, adherence to company, TXDOT, and other applicable policies and regulations, and preoperative vehicle inspections.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Unload inbound shipments safely and move material to storage locations.
- Load outbound shipments efficiently and safely, following loading procedures.
- Efficiently stack and store the merchandise in the appropriate areas.
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage. Report quality variances.
- Pull and prepare material for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and product type is loaded and shipped.
- Perform picking duties in an efficient manner that meets customer service standards.
- Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into rail cars or trailers.
- Load, unload, move, stack, and stage materials using a forklift or other power equipment.
- Maintain the facility’s equipment and materials neat, clean, and orderly. Inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment.
- Operate all equipment safely and efficiently following prescribed work methods.
- Keep appropriate records and reports to maintain tight inventory control and security. Assist in physical inventories. Ensure proper stock rotation.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse.
- Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety.
- Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as required.
Skills and Specifications:
- Knowledge, skill and ability to safely operate a forklift
- Knowledge, skill and ability to safely operate a yard dog
- Safely operate a heavy or tractor-trailer truck.
- Properly track and document activity log.
- Report any issues or incidents to dispatch.
- Inspect the truck before and after the trip.
- Deliver product/material promptly throughout the route.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and paperwork.

Education and Qualifications:
- Current Class A CDL.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- A valid driver’s license and a good driving record
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
