Seeking an English as a Second Language (ESL) and GED instructor with a semi-flexible availability. We are the Lafayette Adult Resource Academy (LARA) and career development and education for community improvement and support is what we strive for!
Aside from in-class on location courses we also work with companies and businesses to give their employees educational access to advance their careers. This means preparing employees for GED testing and English language acquisition. As we expand we are seeking new teaching staff to work in developing and expanding our Workforce Education Initiative (WEI) and Integrated Education and Training (IET) programs.
This role will start as part-time and the teaching schedule will be determined by the company/businesses we partner with. This could change to full time in the future based on performance and program growth. It will be a set schedule determined by the convenience of the company and the employee's schedules. Class sizes can range from 10-20 students on average but can be more or less depending on the business/time of year.
Teaching license and experience in education/training is preferable but not a requirement! We can provide training for candidates not familiar with Adult Basic Education (ABE).
This role provides an incredible amount of autonomy for our educators and an instructor-centered program that puts our educators' concerns and well-being first. You will have the freedom of developing your own lesson plans and be able to curate and adjust your style to match your students' needs and incorporate targeted vocabulary per company's requests. Because students and programs are always changing, a high level of flexibility in adjusting to change is a must!
Because you will not be teaching at LARA this role requires an instructor who is independent and autonomous in planning and executing their lessons. However, support will always be available when needed!
We encourage instructors to create a high energy and interactive lesson while remembering they are working with adult learners. We are seeking instructors who can engage with their students and make them want to come back. Our programs are free to our students but they are paying for their lessons with their time and as such, we aim to make sure that payment is well invested!
