of lifelong learning to improve lives? We are seeking a proactive and organized teammate to help shape
our fast-growing program into a large-scale solution for NYC's teacher shortage.
Grow Your Own (GYO) at the Kennedy Children's Center (KCC) is a pipeline program that addresses the
shortage of diverse, certified staff in NYC's schools by empowering adults from low-income communities
to enter the education field. GYO 1.0 is a 6-week training that enables adults from low-income
communities to earn their New York State Teacher Assistant Certification, at no cost to them. Successful
trainees are eligible to enroll in GYO 2.0, our college support program, to earn a BA in early childhood
special education while taking on little to no debt. You can learn more at www.kenchild.org/gyo.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
● Recruitment:
○ Ensure referrals for upcoming cohorts by advertising in the community and
researching/maintaining relationships with recruitment partners
○ Interview prospective candidates to determine eligibility for the program, keeping in
mind criteria that may be required by GYO's funders or partners
○ Ensure compliance with all intake paperwork, in collaboration with KCC HR as necessary
● Training Management:
○ Coordinate and present the six-week GYO 1.0 training curriculum for cohorts of up to 15
people, 4 to 5 times per year
○ Schedule outside vendors as required by the curriculum, which include mandated
trainings, tutoring, and test taking
○ Work with school directors to place trainees into classroom internships
○ Assist trainees with job placement upon graduation, and provide continuing support for
graduates as needed
● Other:
○ Maintain required paperwork before, during, and after training cohorts
○ Provide data about participants and graduates upon request
○ Collaborate with other Workforce Coordinators as necessary
○ Conduct regular follow up with graduates to document job retention
QUALIFICATIONS:
● BA or BS in Human Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, Psychology or related field
preferred
● At least two years experience in workforce development, human resources, or related field, and
knowledge of human resource activities (recruiting, applications, interviewing, hiring, etc.)
