Job description

As a WordPress E-commerce Developer at Awesome Motive, you will join the OptinMonster team. You need experience with WordPress billing/payment systems (preferably Easy Digital Downloads) and recurring subscriptions. You're responsible for producing scalable, secure e-commerce solutions. You'll be part of a cross-functional team responsible for the entire software development life cycle, from conception to deployment. You should be comfortable with PayPal, Stripe, Shopify, and Easy Digital Downloads. If you have experience with WooCommerce or another WordPress e-commerce tool, we still want to hear from you! You should also be comfortable with front-end and back-end coding languages, development frameworks, and third-party libraries.

Common responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Scoping, building, and testing new product features specifically in regards to our billing system, product plans, addon features, etc.
  • Investigating/scoping, and fixing/testing bugs in the billing system.
  • Triaging bugs and enhancements that come into GitHub.
  • Team-oriented solution discovery and time estimation.
  • Providing technical support to our success teams and to customers in "plain-english" and avoiding code-speak.
  • Continuously improve existing codebases, identifying key opportunities for refactoring and performance improvement.
  • Delivering high quality and scalable software that is unit tested, integration tested, code reviewed, and checked in regularly for continuous integration. This means code that is performant, scalable, and secure, following best practices.
  • Communicating with and supporting your peers via chat and video calls.
  • Providing helpful and critical feedback and peer review for other developers, as well as testing peer code for regression and requirements being met.
  • Work closely with the Product team to spec out the technical aspects of a feature from inception through delivery.
  • Managing deadlines and owning your projects from start to finish, including ongoing progress communication, and ensuring your work meets the agreed upon acceptance criteria.

  • Version control via git, e.g. tagging/branching/merging.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 3+ years of WordPress Ecommerce experience
  • Advanced proficiency with these backend technologies/concepts (PHP, MYSQL, Bash, Serverless, CLI, APIs, OOP, autoloading, namespacing, traits, interfaces, etc).
  • Competent experience with front-end technology/concepts (ReactJs, VueJS, TypeScript, vanilla JS, ES6, jQuery, HTML, CSS, Sass, modern markup and styling techniques/methods, etc)
  • Experience with WordPress plugin development, architecture, and standards
  • Extensive experience working with third-party APIs (Eg PayPal, Stripe, Drip, Zapier, etc) and CMS (WordPress, Shopify, etc).
  • Extensive knowledge with operating in "test mode" for these various billing systems.
  • A thorough understanding of common security vulnerabilities, such as cross-site scripting (xss), remote code execution, SQL injection, and clickjacking.
  • Knowledge of git-based source control systems e.g GitHub, code review tools, CI tools, etc.
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Personal Computer with internet access.
  • Availability to participate in audio/video meetings between the hours 8:00am-1:00pm EST.

Bonus points if you also have:
  • Ecommerce subscriptions experience.
  • Built integrations for or with Shopify.
  • Experience writing technical documentation.
  • Devops experience.
  • Written a full-stack Vue or React app.
  • A thorough understanding of Redux for React and/or Vuex.
  • Developed/implemented an SSO (Single Sign On) application.
  • Developed applications with integration across many sites/servers.
  • Worked with Oauth applications/integrations.
  • Experience working with CLI/bash scripts.
  • Experience designing and building public APIs, with an emphasis on clarity and developer experience.
  • Experience creating/managing build systems with build tools like webpack, babel, and gulp and package managers such as Composer and NPM.
  • Knowledge and experience in AWS, Lambdas, EC2, Docker, etc.

LocationThis is a remote position - our team is spread around the globe! Our home base is in Florida, USA, so company operating hours are 9am - 5pm ET (UTC -5). While full coverage is not a requirement, you must be available during a portion of the day.
