Wire Edm Machinist

Job Summary:

As an EDM Machinist on the 1st shift, you will play a pivotal role in efficiently producing high-quality precision parts through the skillful application of work holding, machine tool setup, and offset adjustments. Your expertise in EDM techniques and ability to handle tight tolerance work in a job shop environment will be crucial for success in this role.

Essential Functions:

1. Efficiently utilize machine tools and time to produce high-quality parts.
2. Program new, highly complex parts from CAD models using Mastercam/Peps software.
3. Design, create, and apply new and complex work holding and fixtures.
4. Set up and run both new and repeating high-complexity parts.
5. Expertly perform secondary operations, including deburring.
6. Conduct basic to advanced machine preventative maintenance activities.
7. Collaborate with production management, engineering, and quality teams to establish effective processes.
8. Work effectively within a team to achieve production goals.
9. Train, mentor, and coach other team members.
10. Set an example for others to follow with outstanding workmanship and teamwork.
11. Perform miscellaneous activities as assigned by the Manager.

Qualifications:

• Education:

  • High School Diploma (required)
  • Associates Degree in Machine Tool Technology (Highly Preferred)

• Certifications:

  • GD&T (Preferred)

• Background:

  • 10+ years of machining experience.
  • Experience producing tight tolerance parts in both production and prototype environments.
  • 5+ years of experience working in ISO or AS workplaces.

Authorities:

• Stop processes & shipments due to quality concerns if necessary.
• Communicate issues with product and process conformance to Management.
• Communicate noncompliance to QMS, Safety, Ethics, and Employee Handbook requirements to Management.

Competencies:

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Competent use of Windows-based PC.
• Advanced to expert use of CAM software.
• Advanced understanding of blueprints.
• Ability to use and apply basic math applicable to machining.
• Advanced understanding of GD&T and its application.
• Advanced ability to troubleshoot/problem-solve machine and programming issues on high-complexity parts with minimal supervision.
• High attention to detail.
• Advanced to expert knowledge of EDM techniques (e.g., Wire, Turn and Burn, Sinker, Hole-pop) and their applications.
• Proficient use of .001-.012 wire in vertical and tapered cuts.
• Ability to regularly run or assist others in running more than one work center at a time.
• High proficiency with measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, pins, vision system, CMM).
• Ability to collaborate with others throughout the organization.
• Regularly lift 30-50 pounds.
