Job Description
What You Will Be Doing
The position serves as a Wildland Fire Support Services I at the Fairbanks Warehouse for the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection. The Warehouse maintains over $12 million worth of inventory and accountable property. The Warehouse supports numerous incidents annually within the regional area. The Warehouse has a staff of 7 permanent and temporary employees and frequently increases temporary staffing during periods of high activity.
This position is a permanent seasonal position and primarily works as a "floater" working in different departments that need assistance in the warehouse. This position will assist warehouse personnel in issuing, refurbing, receiving, returning, inventory control, and maintaining supplies in a safe and cost-effective manner as needed. This position is also responsible for helping load and unload materials from transport vehicles and aircraft with forklifts and pallet jacks. This position may also be asked to assist in the warehouse office, answering phones, monitoring radios, issuing communication hardware, filing, and working on the warehouse computer system.
Will operate common warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, banding machines, shrink wrap machines, staplers, and other common tools and equipment used for the refurbishment of used equipment returned from incidents.
Applicants should be aware that the work can be highly stressful during periods of intense support activity. It frequently requires long hours on short notice, callback in the evenings or on weekends, work shifts of 12 hours for extended periods, short deadlines, quick decisions, and rapid changes in priorities.

The Wildland Fire Support Services provide critical logistical support to staff engaged in Wildland Fire suppression and mitigation.

The Working Environment You Can Expect
Physical Requirements include routine movement such as walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, sitting, standing, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Performing work from floor level to above shoulder height. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Seeking a hard-working individual who can work individually, when required, or as part of a team to complete necessary tasks. They must be willing to work long hours and on their regular days off, as fire activity dictates.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of cumulative experience performing any combination of serving as an engine, helitack, or other crew member engaged in Wildland Fire suppression efforts; ordering resources and coordinating logistical needs in Wildland Fire suppression efforts; purchasing goods or services on behalf of a business or organization; receiving, organizing, and stocking items for sale or supply; operating manual and mechanized equipment to load/unload, and move supplies, equipment, parts, tools, and/or materials; preparing and delivering or shipping goods; and/or operating, maintaining, or repairing vehicles, equipment, or buildings/facilities sufficient to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Special Note:
Many positions in this class require National Incident Qualification System (NIQS) red card certification. Recruitment and selection for these positions will be from among only those candidates who meet the experience and the basic NIQS training requirements relevant to the predominant responsibilities of the position.
Some positions in this class require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require the applicant possess and maintain a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older prior to appointment.
Some positions in this class require the incumbent possess a commercial driver's license, which may also require hazardous materials endorsements. Incumbents of positions that require a commercial driver's license are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with State and federal regulations.

  • This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazardous Endorsement, to maintain registration with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382: Incumbent will have 120 days to acquire CDL and endorsement if not already obtained.
