- $24hr - $32hr
- Pay Based on Experience and Weld Test
- No Per Diem on Local Jobs
- Monday through Thursday typically
- 7:00 am to 5:30 pm
- Overtime required as needed to meet customer demands
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Use clamps, brackets, and/or hangers to secure weld site
- Remove slags and rough spots from workpieces by operating grinders or scrapers to ensure a smooth work surface
- Employ their knowledge of metallurgy to determine materials and equipment most suitable for a welding project
- Clean and prepare workpieces using chemical solutions etc. to remove foreign matter such as grease, rust, etc.
- Use heating furnaces to preheat metal pipes before welding or bending
- Cut and shape metal components to set specifications using power saws, chipping knives or other hand tools
- Fill holes, cracks, and dents on metal workpieces
- Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to check gap allowances, grooves, or angles
- Control and turn valves or regulators to adjust flames and ensure proper use of welding gas
- Wear appropriate protective gear and ensure compliance with established health/safety regulations
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws, “weld as if every weld will be X-rayed and inspected”
- Pass a 6G Monster / Small Bore Coupons and/or 2G, 3G, 4G Structural Plate Test
- All weld tests will meet the ASME IX acceptance criteria and will be X-ray tested
- Proven experience as a welder
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, Flux Core, etc.)
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves, etc.)
- Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
- Always attentive to detail and alert to ensure safety
- Ability to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
- Handling heavy loads
