Job Description
Web Developer (Front-end)
Under general supervision develop and design web applications, pages, templates, documents, and graphics using authoring or scripting languages, content creation tools, management tools, and digital media. They also oversee and participate in web content and website editing. As web page content is released, Web Developers confer with users to prioritize needs and resolve conflicts or issues. Web Developers may be responsible for managing or creating content or applications that will be made available in websites/contexts beyond “detroitmi.gov.” Web Developers manage, create, and configure web-enabled applications. Those applications may be deployed on-premises, on the City’s intranet, in the cloud, and/or via a public/private Internet site.
Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course of work in computer science, graphic arts, web design, programming, or other related field of study and have at least three (3) years in web design, web content management, and communications is required. Web Developers must demonstrate proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.
Web Developer (Backend)
Under general supervision, the Web Developers plans, designs, develops, tests, implements, and manages the City’s Internet and intranet activities, including managing, creating, or integrating with web-based applications that will enable new tasks/processes or streamline existing asks/processes. The work performed by Web Developers primarily involves performing basic Internet/intranet support functions such as web page/application design, content development, and site updates. Web Developers build web applications and user experiences that change the way people perceive and interact with the City of Detroit. Web Developers also contribute technical guidance during implementations of new systems or applications and play a key role in the management and maintenance of the City’s website(s).
Qualified candidates will bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field of study and a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a backend developer with experience in core python, python framework like django, or node.js.
