Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of heroes who gave so much for us? This opportunity as the on-call Psychiatric Social Worker 2 may be just for you! This critical role is located at the Spokane Veterans Home in Spokane, Washington.
*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.
Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.
As the On-Call Psychiatric Social Worker 2 for our Spokane Veterans Home, you will provide medically-related social services to veterans/spouses to attain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each veteran.
Responsibilities include completing psychosocial assessments and assigned components of RAI and maintaining direct contact with residents/families and resident confidentiality throughout the facility. Additionally, you will conduct interviews for ongoing assessment and treatment with a focus on residents' cognitive, mood, psychosocial and behavioral status while serving as a member of the treatment team.

Duties
Some of what you be doing includes:
  • Providing direct clinical Psychiatric Social Worker services to residents and their families.
  • Completing psychosocial assessments, including psychiatric case histories as needed.
  • Completing assigned components of RAI (MDS, CAAs, and Care Plans).
  • Conducting interview for ongoing assessment and treatment with a focus on the resident's cognitive, mood, psychosocial, and behavioral status.
  • Directing contact with residents and their families.
  • Serving as the facility discharge planner to assigned residents, assessing resident readiness for discharge, and planning for smooth transition from facility to community.
  • Serving as an active participant on the behavior team.
  • Serving as a member of treatment team, facilitating resident care conferences, and providing input on resident status relative to area of expertise.
  • Developing behavior plans and maintaining behavior monitors when necessary.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Master's degree in social work (must be from an educational program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing care for individuals with chronic mental health issues, dementia, or intellectual and developmental disabilities in a long-term care of behavioral healthcare setting.
  • Must have advanced practice knowledge in aging, disability, mental illness, Alzheimer's disease, and developmental disabilities.
  • Excellent facilitation skills with the ability to focus and direct group discussions.
  • Strong clinical skills and long-term care knowledge, including regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to partner with residents, families, and other providers and care team to identify and service resident care needs.
  • If holding less than a Master's degree in social work, must be directly supervised by an employee who has a Master's degree in social work.
Preferred/Desired:
  • Current, valid licensure in Washington State for Licensed Advanced Social Worker, Licensed Social Worker Associate and Independent Clinical, or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.
  • Received specialized training devoted to mental illness and treatment of older adults.
  • Experience in the care of geriatric population and dementia care.
  • Knowledge of medical conditions/diagnoses in relationship to psychosocial wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of categories of psychoactive medication and side effect profiles.
  • Working knowledge of federal tags, WACs, etc.
  • Knowledge of veterans' issues/PTSD/resources.

Insurance Benefits
Employees and their families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance. There are multiple medical plans with affordable monthly premiums that offer coverage throughout the state.
Staff are eligible to enroll each year in a medical flexible spending account which enables them to use tax-deferred dollars toward their health care expenses. Employees are also covered by basic life and long-term disability insurance, with the option to purchase additional coverage amounts.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs. For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
Social Security
All state employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The state and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness
If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, and meet the qualifying criteria, you may be eligible to receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Holidays
Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
Note: Employees who are members of certain Unions may be entitled to additional personal leave day(s), please refer to position specific Collective Bargaining Agreements for more information.
Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.
Part-time employees who are in pay status during the month of the holiday qualify for the holiday on a pro-rata basis. Compensation for holidays (including personal holiday) will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the month to that required for full-time employment, excluding all holiday hours. Pay status includes hours worked and time on paid leave.
Sick Leave
Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.
Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
Vacation (Annual Leave)
Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.
Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment.
