HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER SOCIAL WORK has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME FOSTER CARE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM SOCIAL WORKER (100% FTE, Day Shifts) to join the Harborview Abuse & Trauma Center (HATC).

This position provides consultation and assessment services for parents, children, and families served by the Washington State Division for Children, Youth, and Families, and tribal nations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assess the safety, permanency, and well-being of children in out-of-home care.

  • Identify barriers to children’s safe return home and offer recommendations to remove barriers in achieving permanency.

  • Conduct structured interviews with key people such as the state child welfare caseworker, birth parents, caregivers, court appointed special advocates, teachers, and service providers.

  • Administer and interpret results of standardized tests, such as the Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC-17), the Child and Adolescent Trauma Screen (CATS), the Child Sexual Behavior Inventory (CSBI), the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the ASSIST, and Parenting Stress Index (PSI).

  • Prepare Standard or Comprehensive Service and Permanency Assessment Reports (SPAR) for Department of Child Youth and Family Services (DCYF) in a timely manner.

  • Use clinical skills to promote problem recognition and motivation to change, barriers to change, assessment of key clinical factors associated with child safety such as depression, substance abuse, parenting stress, child abuse potential, and child developmental or emotional/behavioral problems.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of evidence-based programs and treatments that address mental and behavioral health issues that impact permanency planning for children, youth, and families.

  • Coordinate and facilitate service planning with DCYF to meet identified treatment and permanency needs for referred children.

  • Educate DCYF staff and community agencies about FCAP services.

  • Provide expert testimony on Child Welfare Dependency Cases.

  • Provide training and consultation on child welfare related topics.

  • Strong candidates will have a minimum of two years' experience in child welfare or a related field. Experience in presenting and/or training on child welfare topics and experience in the application of the Indian Child Welfare Act is preferred.
    REQUIREMENTS:
    A Master of Social Work Degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
    AND
    One year of full-time social work experience in a health care setting or equivalent. Experience can include a practicum placement as part of a social work training program and/or employment experience.

    Within 90 days of hire must hold one of the following credentials issued by the state of Washington:
  • Agency Affiliated Counselor

  • Licensed Social Work Associate -Advanced

  • Licensed Social Work Associate - Independent Clinical

  • Licensed Advance Social Worker

  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
