Job Responsibilities
Are you an experienced professional looking for new opportunities to further your career? The South Carolina Office of Resilience is seeking four (4) hardworking and dependable candidates just like you to apply! These positions will offer great benefits with the state, including 15 days of annual and sick leave per year or more depending on applicable state service.
The Program Coordinator will work directly with the South Carolina Office of Resilience and Program Manager to implement the watershed resilience planning program statewide, working with communities within the State's 8 River Basins. The planning process includes: information gathering, community engagement, development of community risk and vulnerability reports, the creation of River Basin Resilience Plans, and the creation of a planning handbook that may be used as a framework for other communities to carry out a similar process in the future. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Inventory and compile relevant plans, studies, and data to be used in the planning process.
  • Refine the planning process to allow for efficient completion of program deliverables.
  • Inventorying existing data and resources available at the federal, state, and local level and integrating such data to inform a watershed-based resilience planning effort.
  • Spatial and tabular analysis, producing mapping and other data products for use in vulnerability assessments.
  • Support community engagement activities throughout the program.
  • Creation of a comprehensive Watershed Based Resilience Plan that synthesizes findings of community reports and sets a vision for basin's resilience goals, prioritizing projects for implementation.
  • Document program planning activities to develop a written methodology {handbook) that may be replicated across the state in other watersheds.
  • Coordinating with partners for the development of community reports and integration into watershed-based resilience plan, including coordinating procurement, community engagement, and data analysis.
  • Responsible for proactive outreach and technical assistance to state, regional and local governments, non-profits, and other community partners for the purpose of resilience planning and implementation.
  • Participates in meetings and public engagement events for the purposes of coordinating resilience in the assigned watershed and developing recommendations to be include in watershed resilience plans.
  • Provides professional and advisory assistance to local, regional, and state officials for the implementation of planning recommendations.
  • Assists the program manager in the update and implementation of the Strategic Statewide Resilience and Risk Reduction Plan.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.

  • Ability to interpret scientific, geographic and hydrology data for a non-technical audience to inform planning decisions.
  • Ability to create solutions using analytical skills.

  • Excellent organizational, listening, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and conduct business in a manner consistent with the mission, policies, and core values of the agency and program.
  • Knowledge of relevant state and local laws, regulations, polices, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate and present to varied audiences to include the public and local and government representatives.
