Water Resources Engineer (Entry-Level And Junior)

Alvi Associates is growing and we are seeking a Water Resources Engineer with 0 to 3 years of experience to become an integral member of our team.

Founded in 1979, Alvi Associates provides structural, Water Resources, roadway, and geotechnical engineering services in the mid-Atlantic region to numerous clients and project owners, including the Maryland DOT, Virginia DOT, Delaware DOT, and various city and county agencies.

Our office is located in Towson, Maryland, with free parking and convenient access to the City of Baltimore and many entertainment, shopping, and nature areas. Currently, except for participation in fieldwork and attending in-person meetings when necessary, we are fullyremote working, with an option for employees to come into our spacious office whenever they want to. Since this remote arrangement has proven successful, we do not have any plans to go hybrid with mandatory weekly time in the office, though we do have weekly ‘office days’ when employees may wish to come in the office, and we also have monthly company lunches. In order to attend occasional in-person meetings and participate in fieldwork, the candidate will need to reside in Maryland or an adjacent state.

Water Resources Engineer – Job Description

We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer with 0 to 3 years of experience.

You will work under the direction of a Division Director and Senior Engineers. Your projects will involve:

• Stormwater Management: Evaluating developments for compliance, and designing SWM facilities (BMPs and ESDs) to address water quality and quantity requirements. May also include SWM inspection, retrofit of existing facilities, and designing facilities to address TMDL goals for restoring the Chesapeake Bay.
• Drainage: Locating and sizing storm drain systems and open channels, designing culverts, and designing outfall protection.
• Erosion and Sediment Control: Evaluating drainage patterns during construction and locating ESC devices to prevent erosion and sediment deposition.
• Bridge Hydraulics: Hydrologic, hydraulic, and scour analysis for bridges using the latest methods and software.
• Roadways: Evaluating and designing interchange and intersection layouts, horizontal and vertical roadway geometrics for new and improved roadways, maintenance of traffic plans, traffic control devices, etc.

Experience with HEC-RAS, TR-20, TR-55, ArcGIS, GeoPAK, and Microstation is a plus.

Job Requirements

• 0 to 3 years of Water Resources Engineering experience
• BS degree or higher in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• EIT certification
• Adeptness with engineering software

Preferred Qualifications

• Water Resources Engineering experience in Maryland and/or Virginia
• Experience with Microstation
