If so, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is looking for a manager that will lead our Water Conservation team and our conservation programs. While many of these programs are focused in the City of Seattle, this position also leads regional efforts to conserve water through the Seattle region's Saving Water Partnership, which includes SPU and eighteen of our wholesale water customers. This position also supports other water planning and policy efforts.

  • Lead the refinement and implementation of SPU and regional Water Conservation programs.
  • Lead the Water Conservation team, directly supervising a team of four to five people.
  • Lead the Saving Water Partnership, working collaboratively with staff from wholesale purveyors such as other cities and water districts.
  • Hire, oversee, manage, and evaluate consultant contracts for Water Conservation program work.
  • Present to and support SPU's Wholesale Contract Operation Board, who guides and advises on water system operations.
  • Advise SPU's Water Line of Business and SPU's senior leadership on Water Conservation aspects of long-range utility planning, legislative and policy decisions, and conservation program direction.
  • Ensure Water Conservation programs are delivered equitably and able to reach historically underserved communities.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on program budgets.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years supervising employees and/or experience leading and having management responsibility for programs and project/program teams.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Affairs, Resource Conservation, or related field.


Experience/Education Equivalency: A combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class may be substituted for the required education or experience.


License, Certification and Other Requirements: Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.


Special Conditions:Some weekend and evening work is expected.


You will be most successful in this role if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Experience supervising staff either as a supervisor or as a program/project manager leading a team.
  • Experience in Water Conservation and program management.
  • Strong communication skills, including work experience with the public and customers.
  • Good ability to develop and maintain relationships, especially with regional partners and stakeholders.
  • Desire to learn and grow.
  • Knowledge and experience in outreach and community-based social marketing.

The full salary range for this position is $41.01 - $61.51 per hour.
