Learn and grow:
You will gain valuable work experience leaning about liquid waste management, environmental stewardship and impacts, and public infrastructure. This job will also introduce you to electronics and electronic trouble shooting.
What you will do:
You will be part of team that oversees the installation, maintenance and repair of Wastewater Flow Monitoring and rain gauge sampling equipment and the collection and recoding of data. This very often includes troubleshooting flow monitor devices, sensors, cables, data, and graphs. Work will require revolving 24-hr standby duty during wet weather season (typically October March) and mandatory overtime during wet stormy weather events.

Additional information on job responsibilities:
  • This position may receive general work direction from a Flow Monitoring Technician and receives general supervision from a higher-level manager or supervisor. This position does not supervise, but may provide directions and leadership to seasonal staff, other career staff, or inmate labor.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
  • Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • High school graduate or G.E.D. and demonstrated experience in a routine performance of operator duties, tasks and responsibilities in a wastewater collection or treatment system or any combination of education and/or experience and training as defined by operator certification level that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Wastewater Collection System Operation Certificate Level 1 is required, OR candidates must demonstrate to be in process of obtaining certification by completing all state requirements for either "On-the-Job" training or "Operator-in-Training" status and successfully obtain certification within 18 months of hire.
    • Candidates with out-of-state licenses will be required to obtain Oregon certification within six months of hire.

  • Confined space competent person certification is required within six months of hire.
