Job Description

The US Trading Team maintains and grows diversified revenue streams across the US market and providing support to our colleagues regionally.

The team is organized into two practices – Client Solutions and Commercial Solutions – with a third being created called Revenue Operations, which you will lead. Collectively as a team, we develop a stable of value-creating products and partnerships. Client Solutions owns partnering with our clients, identifying needs/opportunities, and integrating these partnerships/solutions. Commercial oversee the discovery, negotiating and activation of partnerships and the sourcing and development of new products/solutions. Both teams work together to deliver the US trading vision, which is to improve business outcomes for clients and deliver value for all.

Revenue Operations is a new discipline, comprised of four areas: financial operations, assurance, business analysis, and planning. Financial operations ensure our billing, reconciliation and revenue recognition operations happen in a prompt and accurate fashion. Assurance ensures that all our partnerships and programs are operating compliantly and following our own, dentsu’s, and the industry’s wider expectations and guidelines. Business analysis is aimed at providing world-class marketplace insights and business analysis, so that our teams can maximize value creation. Planning is responsible for financial planning, analysis, global-local interface, and systems/process design.

This is a leadership position within Revenue Operations, aimed at bringing together these capabilities to maximize and protect our revenue, and providing the important infrastructure that our business requires to function and succeed. Working with the CTO and the other capability leads, you will set an annual strategy on how to achieve these goals and then activate that strategy. You will be jointly accountable – along with capability leads in Commercial Solutions, Client Solutions, and the CTO, NA – for successful delivery of the budget, margin goals and other financial Goals for the team.

The VP is expected to have a working knowledge of media, the associated tools, and the finance and compliance processes inherent in a media buying business. Experience in commercial finance, FP&A, or client commercial roles would be most suitable, but the most important factor is to meld commercial, finance, process, and technology skillsets together to improve business processes and outcomes. You will be a step toward greater leadership within the network and you will report into the Chief Trading Officer.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage an interdisciplinary group (you will have four direct reports) who will be tasked with specific areas relating to sustainable Revenue Operations – financial operations, a crucial capability that ensures activity is correctly captured, reconciled, billed and recognized; assurance, a new capability that ensures that all business processes are held to the highest compliance and ethical standards; business analysis, responsible for data visualization, pipelining and processing to improve our analytical skills across the business and marketplace; and planning, a crucial capability that allows to plan our partnerships, product finances, investments, and revenue footprint across the year (as well as system and process design)
  • Create and deploy an annual strategy aimed at the important success metrics for the Revenue Operations group – grow revenue (maximize Revenue Operations, improve process to increase speed in operation), protect it (compliance, financial management, process, error rate minimization), use automation and hybrid intelligence to create new forms of value (support our heavy data capabilities such as programmatic marketplace management, business and market trends analysis).
  • Analyze data and understand market patterns to generate strategic revenue opportunities, and imparting those skills into the teams that you with (and whom work into you)
  • Support the Commercial Operations Director and SVP, Commercial in Canada to ensure that best practices are shared between the markets as the NA market scales, ensure that operational decisions – from technology, to process, to sourcing – are aligned and deployed in the most efficient way possible as a NA region
  • Support and direct the Business Analysis & Planning leads in the overhaul of disparate internal systems into a single cloud-based data warehouse, and encourage and facilitate their efforts to build world-class analytical and process automation capabilities on top of this infrastructure
  • Ensure that all activities are tying back to our main aims – grow revenue, protect it, use automation and hybrid intelligence to create new value both inside our business and in the wider advertising market
  • Represent the Revenue Operations capability on the Commercial Board, not only from a financial lens, but also a contractual/compliance lens
  • Build relationships within the financial and legal communities to ensure that we are working as well with our departments as possible, allowing us to move as quickly and as accurately as possible as a trading unit

Strategic Thinking & Leadership

  • Balance, prioritize and assign work associated with multiple, concurrent projects
  • Provide guidance to team members and nurture/promote team environment
  • Ensure important information is being provided to the team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status.
  • Is approachable and solution-oriented when presented with problems by staff and team
  • Construct and deliver accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
  • Is mindful of the client’s point of view when reviewing work, use this perspective when providing feedback to team
  • Breaks down problems into critical parts which can be resolved
  • Oversee management of specific projects as assigned and maintain overall plan quality control
  • Is an engaged member of the media industry, and proactively solicit and contribute ideas

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of analytical experience within media environment (sales or agency or industry adjacent), ideally with 3+ years of managerial experience, ideally within a numerate or commercial environment
  • Advanced numeracy skills, ability to understand intermediate to advanced financial concepts and operate within such an environment
  • Ability to work independently and creatively, finding new solutions to problems, particularly those that exist ‘because it has always been like that’
  • Some programming or no-code experience (UIPath, Power Automate, VBA) preferred, as is an understanding of basic database management and/or information retrieval fundamentals
  • Switch between commercial, financial and compliance modes – understanding how all elements come together to deliver sustainable revenue, following our trading values

Additional Information
  • Flexible paid time off
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave
  • Matching 401(k)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans

The anticipated salary range for this position is $113,000 - $182,850. Salary is based on a variety of factors including relevant experience, knowledge, skills and other factors permitted by law. A range of medical, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and/or other benefits also are available. For more information regarding dentsu benefits, please visit www.dentsubenefitsplus.com.
