The Data & Analytics department is looking for an expert to drive technical capability development and execution in our Data Engineering space. The VP, Analytics Engineering will be the key contributor to the execution of strategy for the Data Analytics Engineering team and will build the roadmap for the architecture, systems and tools required to have a best-in-class data ecosystem.
This person will sit in our Schaumburg, IL North America HQ in a hybrid schedule. We are not offering remote work for this role.
This role will work on next generation data platform services and processes that support Business Units and Share Service Units. The role is expected to challenge the teams to think differently to achieve desired business outcomes and foster a culture of quality and innovation.
The ideal candidate will have experience mentoring and developing a strong team and will be able to quickly establish credibility. They are a self-starter who is comfortable in a rapidly changing environment and takes a proactive and strategic approach to building solutions. They will have the ability to bridge short term goals with longer term strategy and communicate it to a wide audience.
Responsibilities:
- Be in charge of the team's technical strategy, planning and execution, and establish rituals to be aligned with partners.
- Advise, mentor and learn from team members in all the relevant areas from Engineering to Analytics, Data and Machine Learning.
- Design and build scalable data solutions to ingest, store and process very large amounts of data (structured, semi-structured and unstructured), including streaming and real-time into the cloud based Big Data Lake and Generative AI data foundation.
- Work closely with Business Unit analysts, and Product Managers to build self-service experiences in our data democratization platform.
- Build best in class ETL/ELT based solutions for effective data ingestion and transformation and best in class MLOps to optimize data pipelines, model deployment and model monitoring
- Collaborate with the various technical, platform and product development team on the use of Microsoft Azure services.
- Work closely with the IT and the platform team to deliver technical solutions. This includes end to end data orchestration, data layering, data governance, metadata management, data cataloging, and system integrations.
- Be an expert in all things data including data wrangling, aggregation, summarization and analysis
- Collaborate with the various data source teams both internal and external on effective strategies for data ingestion
- Partner with the data science, actuarial science and various business group on deep rooted data analysis including propensity scores, catastrophic modeling, time-series analysis and forecasting
- Build a high performing, scalable organization in an ambiguous and fast paced environment. This includes hiring, onboarding, mentoring, developing and coaching of existing and new team members and managers.
- Be an evangelist for all things Big Data and Digital
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and 10 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area OR
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area AND
- Experience with IT development and/or maintenance
- Knowledge of IT standards and policy
- Project management experience
- People management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Statistics, Master's Degree preferred
- 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Business Intelligence or other quantitative disciplines, especially during company growth stages, in a cross-functional role.
- 5+ years of management experience leading data teams; proven record of building and motivating successful teams.
- Experience building teams that manipulate data or automate data pipelines in various languages.
- Strong communication skills evidenced by having an uncanny ability to take complex and technical concepts and present them in a clear and consumable format to a wider and senior audience
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills that have been proven by managing big, complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Exceptional critical thinking and attention to detail; Highly conscientious, sweats the data details
- Loves and embraces change and can influence a variety of teams to embrace that change
- Experience in ETL/ELT and data wrangling using tools (Informatica, Alteryx etc.) and languages such as Python, R, Scala, Java, SQL and SAS
- Experience in Big Data platforms on Azure.
- Experience handling a platform running on Spark, Databricks, MlFlow, MLlib, Tensorflow and microservice architecture.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment both as an individual contributor and a technical lead
- Prior hands-on experience delivering self-service big data and data visualization platforms
- Strong software standards and engineering practices working within a shared codebase
