The Position:

CBE is hiring Voter Outreach Leads, who will be based in either Richmond, California or Los Angeles, California. The Leads will supervise and lead a team of five to ten Voter Outreach Organizers in running a 5-week civic engagement program to engage voters on the issues of corporate and polluter accountability, affordable housing, and building a statewide membership base of progressive youth and communities of color. The person(s) in this role should be strongly motivated, disciplined with time and material management, and highly skilled in engaging communities and youth of color to get involved and take action. This is an in-person position with expectation for in-person phonebanks and canvassing from either the CBE offices in Richmond, CA or those in Los Angeles, CA. This position report to CBE?s Civic Engagement Coordinator and/or Civic Engagement Director, will work in collaboration with other Leads, is a member of CBE?s Civic Engagement Department, and will attend weekly alliance meetings.

 

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Leadership and Management: Lead team of five to ten Voter Outreach Organizers in phone banks, canvassing, and volunteer recruitment. Set daily agendas and facilitate trainings and debriefs to help organizers reach their daily goals. Model engagement in canvassing, phonebanking, and in-person/virtual spaces. Ensure goals, deadlines, and performance standards are met. Conduct daily performance and quality control checks to identify areas of performance improvement. Invest in organizers? growth and leadership development throughout the program. Ensure accurate data entry, approve timesheets, and manage schedule for make-up shifts. This position requires daily in-person canvassing and phonebanking to coach, assist, and conduct performance checks.

  • Political Education and Leadership Development: Participate in trainings and ongoing weekly meetings to become familiar with environmental justice, housing justice, corporate accountability, and fiscal revenue generation content areas. Support organizers in connecting their work to the big picture and greater political landscape.

  • Campaign Coordination: Manage daily phonebank and canvass operations, including: coordinating setup and clean-up for phonebank shifts; coaching and supporting a team of organizers; flagging support for technology and internet issues immediately; and evaluating daily shifts. Coach and train organizers to engage a specific subset of voters through phonebanking and canvassing efforts. Maintain professional and persuasive conversations with voters and peers. Attend weekly meetings to provide progress reports on goals, outreach efforts, troubleshoot issues, discuss community response to survey, and receive campaign updates.

  • Volunteer Recruitment and Relational Organizing: Ensures the entire team assists with volunteer recruitment either from within their own networks or Voter Outreach in the community. Set up and manage volunteer recruitment and events utilizing the Mobilize platform. Facilitate training and coaching of volunteers. Spend at least one hour each day on volunteer recruitment. ?

  • Relational Organizing: Enter data regarding voter opt-in contact information. Recruit voters to join our organization through follow-up with opt-in contacts.

  • Spokespersonship: Participate in trainings/meetings to learn how to tell your personal story on the phones, at the doors, and to the media to help build a narrative that centers the role of young people and communities of color in our campaign.?

  • Content creation: Participate in trainings/meetings to brainstorm and develop digital content, such as memes and TikTok videos, that engage young people and communities of color online so they are driven to take action.

  • Other duties as needed.

 

Qualifications and Expectations:

  • Interest in empowering community members and voters through community and electoral organizing

  • Interest in environmental, housing, and social justice, and in corporate accountability

  • Demonstrated experience in organizing, canvassing, or phonebanking

  • Experience in agenda setting, facilitating trainings and/or meetings

  • Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills

  • Ability to navigate on the internet and possession of basic computer skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with youth and diverse people

  • Strong work ethic, punctual, and self-motivated to lead

  • Ability to work well individually and in team settings

  • Ability to work in high-paced, goal-oriented, and high pressure environments

  • Bilingual in Spanish and other languages (preferred but not required)

 

Compensation and Timeframe:?

This is a temporary, part-time (28 hours a week) position, with an hourly rate of $25.00. This position has an expected start date of January 15, 2024 and will end on March 8, 2024. Evenings and weekends expected. Weekly work schedule will be coordinated with your supervisor. You must be available for paid orientation and training beginning January 16.

Due to the temporary nature of this work, we are unable to offer most benefits; however, the position does include a therapy/mental wellness benefit as well as a limited amount of paid sick leave.
