The Rhodes College Department of Music invites applications for a one-year, Visiting Assistant Professor of Music as the Choral Director for the Rhodes Singers to begin August 2024. Rhodes hosts a thriving music community at this Liberal Arts college with big-city opportunities. It is the mission of the Department of Music to teach and have undergraduate students experience music from multiple and diverse perspectives, while maintaining the department’s strong foundation rooted in decades of tradition. The successful candidate will be a dynamic choral director who is an expert of and advocate for broad and diverse choral works, including but not limited to non-Western music, the music of traditionally marginalized groups, and/or World music. The faculty member will be expected to bring this expertise to the table for the Rhodes Singers and help expand the music curriculum through additional courses. The community built in the Rhodes Singers ensemble is indicative of the way all programs aspire to be on campus, and also in our department – welcoming and inclusive—and this hire is crucial in ensuring that this community continues to be a strength to build upon for Rhodes College. Qualified candidates will have training in Choral Conducting with evidence of performance experience and will be able to offer courses in at least two of the following areas: music history, music theory, music cognition, ethnomusicology, composition, music technology, music production, or song writing.

Requirements: 1) Doctorate in Music 2) Evidence of experience and success in directing choirs and in higher education teaching 3) Evidence of teaching Conducting 4) Ability to teach courses in other musical areas listed above 5) Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications (Not required but to be considered):
1) College-level teaching experience 2) Relevant industry and practical experience.
