Position Overview

The Department of Earth and Environmental Systems at the University of the South, Sewanee TN, invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Geology beginning July 1, 2024, for the 2024-25 academic year. Position Description

The University of the South's 13,000-acre property at the edge of the Cumberland Plateau is used extensively in teaching and research and the Department of Earth and Environmental Systems offers four majors: Geology, Natural Resources, Forestry, Environment and Sustainability, as well as a certificate in Watershed Sciences.
The successful candidate will teach six courses per year (a laboratory component of a class counts as one course), including mineralogy, a field-based introductory geology course, and one or more courses in geochemistry, petrology, planetary science, or other geology electives. The successful candidate will teach six courses per year (a laboratory component of a class counts as one course), including mineralogy, a field-based introductory geology course, and one or more courses in geochemistry, petrology, planetary science, or other geology electives.
Applicants should have a:

• Ph.D., or be at the ABD stage, in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, or a neighboring discipline.
• Additionally, demonstrated success in teaching and the ability to drive a 12-passenger van will both be required.
