The accelerated program offers a specialization in healthcare social work. In the traditional sequence for students with baccalaureate degrees in any field, the hybrid curriculum is delivered over four (4) consecutive trimesters. In the advanced standing sequence for students with baccalaureate degrees in social work, the hybrid curriculum is delivered over three (3) consecutive trimesters.
The curriculum is designed to meet the competency-based educational model of the Council on Social Work Education. It includes coursework on generalist practice, followed by specialized practice coursework in healthcare social work.
Teaching is the primary focus at the University. We aspire to promote student learning within a humanistic environment that facilitates student success to be competent self- directed learners. The role of the part-time instructional faculty within the MSW Program at University of the Pacific is to provide instruction and develop courses as assigned in areas of knowledge and expertise.
The successful faculty candidate will be part of a highly motivated, cohesive faculty of experienced educators working as an interdisciplinary team to deliver a forward-thinking MSW curriculum designed to meet the 2015 CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other MSW faculty members within the program to provide expertise and contribute to a collaborative working environment. This position will report directly to the MSW Program Director.
Job Description and Responsibilities Include:
- Teach or co-teach online, hybrid, or online courses in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities.
- Create or co-create online, hybrid, or in-person course content and materials in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities, including but not limited to:
- Course syllabus
- Reading assignments
- Lectures
- Outlines and scripts for videos, voice-over presentations, podcasts, and similar
- Quizzes and exams
- Discussion boards
- Assignments
- Assessments
- Student guidance
- Instructions
- Overviews
- Other teaching materials
- Create a student-centered learning environment.
- Prepare lecture capture PowerPoints, videos, course content, and other media rich technologies for effective teaching.
- Engage regularly with students in online forums, discussion boards, and virtual meetings.
- Grade learning activities and provide timely constructive feedback.
- Mentor student-directed scholarly work.
- Provide academic advising and professional mentorship.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program.
- At least two (2) years of post-MSW practice experience.
- Content expertise in master's generalist courses and/or specialty content areas related to healthcare social work, including:
- Health and social welfare policy/advocacy.
- Social, behavioral, psychological interventions for patients/clients in health settings.
- Research and evaluation for healthcare, including community based approaches.
- Health social work, community and inpatient, including medical/hospital social work specialty areas.
- Mental health diagnosis and intervention in healthcare.
- Diabetes care and management.
- Social work in health and aging.
- Trauma-informed practice.
- Substance abuse assessment and treatment in healthcare settings.
- Doctoral Degree in social work or related field.
- Academic experience in bachelor or master of social work education.
- Experience with developing and providing didactic lectures and clinical skills training to master's level social work, healthcare and mental health clinicians.
- Experience with online pedagogy and tools.
- Experience with inter-professional healthcare practice and education.
- Clinical social work licensure or eligibility for licensure.
- Practice specialization in one or more of the following areas:
- Medical/hospital social work
- Aging, palliative care, rehabilitation
- Community health
- Community mental health
- Integrated behavioral health care
- Healthcare evaluation/management
- Healthcare policy/advocacy
- Strong knowledge, skills and experience in working with diverse students and client/patient populations.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
