Under general supervision, performs clerical work in support of Deputy/ Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys and/or the Victim/Witness program. Position provides comprehensive information and services to crime victims and witnesses in accordance with the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act; records after-hours docket; responds to calls to the Victim/Witness unit; prepares and distributes a variety of written communications to victims and witnesses; and acts as back-up to Victim/Witness Assistant Director. Reports to the Victim/Witness Director.
- Enters witnesses into the OMNI database and makes witness mini file.
- Prepares witness list packets of weekly court dockets for victim/witness staff; maintains hard copy witness lists for lower courts; prints lists of witnesses for higher court from computerized database; makes copies of all prepared witness list packets for each victim/witness staff member going to court.
- Prepares letters and correspondence to victims and witnesses with inserts of available resources, including program introduction letters, case prosecution and disposition letters, case status letters, court appearance letters, and work/school absence letters.
- Answers multi-line telephone as needed and directs incoming calls; answers general criminal justice questions.
- Date-stamps and forwards incoming mail to appropriate staff.
- Provides notification to crime victims and witnesses regarding changes in status of their cases.
- Inputs available court dates of police officers and maintains current list of phone numbers.
- Acts as back-up to Victim/Witness Assistant Director in providing assistance to victims in determining their financial loss for court-ordered restitution.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
