The Opportunity

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern) seeks applications and nominations for the position of Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Initiatives ("Vice Provost"). UT Southwestern stands as one of the foremost and largest academic medical centers in the United States, uniquely combining pioneering research with exceptional clinical care and education.  The Vice Provost will oversee the faculty appointment and promotion processes and create effective tools and programs to enhance faculty development, engagement, recruitment, and retention. The Institution

With over 3,470 faculty members across its Medical School, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health Professions, and the Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health, the institution drives groundbreaking medical discoveries, translates research into innovative treatments, and prepares the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals. UT Southwestern is currently undergoing unprecedented growth in its research capabilities, infrastructure, and clinical volumes, with significant new investments being made in all aspects of its clinical enterprise. The institution's schools actively train nearly 4,000 medical, graduate, and health profession students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows each year.

Education and Training

Terminal degree (MD and/or PhD, or equivalent) and academic credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of Professor.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders in academic medicine, research, and healthcare delivery. Handles issues of professional and personal conduct with sensitivity, insight, and fairness.
  • Serves as a role model in fostering an inclusive environment that enriches learning, research, scholarship, and healthcare outcomes.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to engagement, actively working to meet the needs of the community and promoting fairness throughout the academic environment.
  • Displays leadership in implementing evolving best practices for faculty recruitment, retention, and professional development.
  • Possesses relevant experience, preferably within an academic medical center setting.
  • Familiarity with organizational and professional development programs.
  • Experience in developing initiatives to foster an engaging environment. Knowledge of biomedical research and the functions of extramural agencies supporting biomedical research.
  • Familiarity with the responsibilities and expectations for faculty members engaged in clinical practice within academic health systems.
  • Optional: candidates with a clinical background may continue to maintain an active clinical presence.
