Purple Carrot started with just a seed of an idea in 2014: Today, we are leading the charge for people to adopt a plant-based lifestyle in their homes and on-the-go. We offer plant-based meal kits and prepared meals with customizable options, including high protein, gluten-free, nut-free, quick & easy, and chef’s choice meals. We also offer plant-based pantry items to keep you stocked between meals.

We are looking for a Vice President, Product and Engineering to lead our Product/UX and Engineering teams, serving as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and reporting directly to the CEO. As leader of the Product and Engineering function, you will build a customer centric strategy and ensure our subscriber journey is optimized while supporting our short and long-term business goals. This role owns the product roadmap and development process from inception through launch and iteration cycles, ensuring work aligns with the overall product and company vision.
Location:
- Purple Carrot HQ is in Needham, MA and prefers local candidates to work in our hybrid model
- This role has limited travel (<10%) to partner sites or other business related meetings
On the Plate
Strategic Planning
- Lead the Purple Carrot platform to world domination as a de-facto standard for plant-based eating with meal choice, diversity of products and delivery methods.
- Align Product Management, Data Science, Engineering and other business stakeholders on Customer first thinking to construct a strategic product and platform roadmap.
- Understand customer segments, lifestyle and how our products fit together. Work with marketing on positioning, value proposition, and go to market strategy using customer insights.
- Partner with leadership to help unlock and test to the next level of growth. Establish strong balance between discovering new product opportunities (delivering solutions) and delivering world-class product experiences (solving problems)
- Generate actionable insights (risks and opportunities) using Data and Data Science for personalization, risks and performance optimization.
Team
- Build and recruit a high performing team (UX, Data Science, Product, and Engineering), which may be a combination of “in-house” employees and “third-party” partners to deliver and execute on the roadmap
- Scale product knowledge within the company, building strong relationships with cross-functional teams and departments (knowledge share)
- Keep the team focused on solving the right problems through an objective-driven approach, product vision, product definition, prioritization and delivery
Execution
- Automate the end-to-end flow for the company’s back office to help scale to the next level of growth. Opportunity Areas: Marketing, E-commerce, Customer Experience, Fulfillment, Operations, & Back-office.
- Execute on product strategy, for all large tech initiatives (ex: Mobile App and Swap Meals)
- Deliver best in class experience for customers on Mobile, Web and other channels (ex: Alexa in the future)
- Maintain a high bar for the platform using a micro-services architecture for flexibility, maintainability and scale.
- Lead project management for projects with technical components to ensure on-time and on-strategy delivery.
Main Ingredients for the Role
- 15+ years of experience in relevant product work
- 3-5 years in product leadership role, including full cycle product implementation and learnings, as well as people leadership
- Engineering and Integration oversight experience at a D2C or subscription service will be a plus
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Extra Special Sauce
- Passionate about customer experience and brings the voice of the consumer to every interaction and decision
- Experience in growth stage or mature start up consumer-facing product, ideally in subscription model and/or a product with a software and physical inventory component
- Experience in building and scaling a product or subscription from an idea to a significant scale.
- Track record of using eCommerce and loyalty KPIs such as conversion rate (CRO), engagement, AOV, Net Promoter, etc.
- Reputation as a strong people leader, with experience building, managing and developing a product team
- Strong Data /Analytics /Business Intelligence background - you lean on quantitative & qualitative data to make decisions - you’re not afraid to dig into the data and when you don't have data, you find ways to gain insights.
- Deep knowledge of agile methodologies and A/B testing.
- Technical fluency - you understand architectures, UI, back-end, and can partner with the engineering team to understand when to make a technical trade-off.
- Passionate about being part of a mission or purpose driven organization, ideally wellness-focused
- A results-driven mindset, with collaborative work style
- Proven ability to evaluate and oversee the implementation/integration of third party software vendors and experience working with a remote (not-colocated) development team
