Summary

Reporting to the COO, the Vice President of Member Experience is responsible for growing membership by creating and managing a coordinated acquisition and retention strategy across membership marketing, product marketing, and events. The Vice President will work with internal and external partners to maximize the value proposition of AOPA membership and ensure that value is clearly and effectively communicated.

The Vice President of Member Experience has overall responsibility for the member growth, member loyalty, outreach and events, digital experience and product marketing teams – including goals, budgets and personnel management. As a key member of the leadership team, the Vice President will help drive the vision and strategy for the organization and play a major role in accelerating its growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute member growth and retention strategies, taking ownership of results and promoting a member-first culture.
  • Understand the needs and desires of general aviation pilots, aspiring pilots, and enthusiasts to inform strategic decisions relating to Member Experience and outreach.
  • Proactively work with VP Corporate Relations, VP Partnerships, and the leadership team to actively manage the overall value proposition.
  • Anticipate and adapt quickly to changing consumer behavior and member needs.
  • Proactively work with other parts of the organization, including media, to support member engagement and brand affiliation.
  • Optimize the Member Experience at each touch point, including through marketing journeys, websites, at events, and other member-facing opportunities.
  • Effectively articulate ideas and generate organization-wide support for new ideas and processes that require collaboration and teamwork.
  • Determine yearly fiscal requirements and prepare annual budgetary recommendations. Manage all revenues and expenses to budget, realigning priorities when necessary.
  • Manage and further develop team members to promote collaboration and grow their capabilities.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated success in growing membership.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and executing strategic goals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of related experience, including supervisory/management experience.
  • Demonstrates agility and tenacity to identify and capitalize on opportunities to improve.
  • Able to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions that inform decision making and provide insight for leadership decisions.
  • Ability to focus on key priorities and effectively drive accountability and quality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other parts of the organization to drive results.
  • Desire to learn to fly or interest/knowledge in aviation a plus.
  • Requires 10-20% travel depending on season and event schedule.
