VP of Live Events

About the Role:
Recently acquired by private equity group MSP Sports Capital, X Games is searching for a visionary VP of Live Events who can build on what X Games does best and re-imagine the event experience for a new generation of fans.
As VP of Live Events, you will play a key role in shaping the future identity of this action sports brand as it grows its presence in the live event space. You will utilize your wealth of strategic rigor, operations know-how, live event and entertainment knowledge, and curiosity, blended with planning and execution expertise to shape and influence the next chapter of the X Games brand.
Overseeing a team of six and multiple vendors, you will redefine and grow what X Games events look like, and how they're designed, produced, and executed at scale - inclusive of events big, small, and everything in between.
You're a natural collaborator and visionary world-class events leader, with expertise in both partnered and owned and operated events, who are comfortable in ambiguity and can own the event process from soup to nuts - including creative, budgeting, and delivery.
Responsibilities:
  • Own X Games event operations & financial management
    • Design, develop, execute, and oversee the overall project plan for large-scale events and festivals
    • Ensure that all aspects of the event align with the overall vision and goals of the company and are executed on time and budget
    • Create, coordinate, and manage budgets and resources, ensuring that financial resources are allocated effectively
    • Negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, and performers
    • Monitor expenses and financial performance throughout the planning and execution phases
    • Oversee venue coordination and logistics
    • Oversee on-site production management
  • Design and execute X Games events (big, small, and partnered)
    • Work with creative teams, industry stakeholders, contempt, and marketing to curate and develop the event and program
    • Collaborate with artists, performers, and speakers to ensure their needs are met
    • Leverage your wealth of relationships to up-level the X Games experience, and help X Games show up in new, smart, creative, and cost-effective ways
    • Incorporate technology solutions for ticketing, merchandise, and on-site experience
  • Cultivate meaningful and collaborative key relationships internally across the X Games team and externally with vendors and promoters to execute events that drive audience growth and relevance for X Games
    • Collaborate with the X Games leadership team across Content, Marketing, Finance, and Revenue to ensure events deliver unique experiences to our guests, generate sought-after content, and drive revenue across sponsorship, media, and hosting/promoter agreements
    • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with the Sales team to ensure event strategies enhance all existing and future partnerships
    • Source new vendor, venue, promoter, and partner opportunities for X Games (e.g. X Games x TBD Music Festival)
    • Work with the content team to ensure a premium experience for viewers, too

Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of extensive experience designing, organizing, and delivering major live, world-class events (live-action sports, festivals, and/or touring)
  • Bachelor's degree in telecommunications, communications, event production, or similar field
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) a plus
  • Experience being conceptually and fiscally creative, finding ways to maximize value on any budget to create moments and events revered by on-site fans and critics alike
  • Extensive experience leading and executing breakthrough creative marketing, advertising, and communications strategies and campaigns
  • Expert in legal and safety compliance (permits, local laws, regulations, etc.)
  • Technologically savvy, with proven experience overseeing technical aspects of the production, including sound, lighting, and multimedia.
  • You are an effective team leader with loads of experience collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams and mentoring staff
  • You have been a member of an executive leadership team in a culture where Marketing had a true "seat at the table"
  • You are knowledgeable and have a passion for extreme sports, music, and entertainment
