POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice President of Nursing, Surgical Services is fully engaged in providing No Harm/ Quality, memorable Patient/Customer Experiences, and Stewardship for GI, Perioperative, and Anesthesia service lines. In addition, the VPN of Surgical Services provides executive support to other procedural areas where anesthesia services are provided (e.g. Endoscopy, CVC, Cath Lab and Radiology). Given the nature and importance of the distributed model, this role also supports Health First system-wide activities and strategies for the expansion of surgical, perioperative, and anesthesia services as well as new facilities.
The VPN of Surgical Services is responsible for all aspects of the respective departmental operations and financial performance including, but not limited to, hiring, staffing, team building, operational efficiency, service and clinical quality, and capital, resource, and operational planning. This role partners with executive administrative and physician leadership for Surgical Services, supports strategic/business planning and surgeon relations, as well as works closely with Medical Staff OR Committees, Perioperative Executive Leadership Council as well as the Health First Executive Leadership Team and members of the Hospital leadership.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Plans, implements, delivers, and evaluates Patient Care Services and the service lines goals/objectives. Works to meet or exceed all performance measurements set out annually in alignment with the hospital division and IDN strategic plan.
- Analyzes and applies scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in-depth, cross-functional experienced-based knowledge, to resolve highly complex problems.
- Manages competing timetables and changing priorities involving complex and sensitive decision-making to delegate, supervise and plan for the timely and successful completion of short- and long-term objectives.
- Takes a systems approach to problem-solving and operates with an understanding of the interrelationships between clinical, teaching, and research activities. Promotes, plans, and implements multi-disciplinary collaboration to ensure a coordinated approach to healthcare.
- Builds trusted relationships with key stakeholders across organizations, accomplishing work in a collaborative, transparent manner. Works collaboratively at all levels to generate and encourage creative ideas, innovative thinking, and imaginative solutions to issues or problems.
- Directs departmental preparations for licensure and accreditation reviews, ensuring standards are met.
- Assesses delivery of care and patient outcomes through rounds, committees, quality assessment, performance improvement activities and community surveys.
- Defines educational needs and actively supports staff development activities.
- Works in partnership with operational leaders to develop and manage operating budgets, capital budgets and labor budgets including periodic review of staffing patterns, employment, recruitment, and retention programs.
- Counsels associates, evaluates grievances, and resolves conflicts.
- Develops and directs organizational quality assurance and quality improvement plans.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related industry
Certification: N/A
License: Current, active State of Florida RN license
Work Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in healthcare administration, with at least 3 years in a senior level management capacity. Specific experience with perioperative and procedural services required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master's degree in nursing, business or healthcare-related field. Must have Bachelor's degree in nursing if Master's degree is in business or health-care related field.
Certification: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR), Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) or equivalent perioperative advancement.
Work Experience:
- RN or related clinical experience.
- At least five (5) years of surgical leadership experience with demonstrated success and expertise in engagement, quality performance, customer experience, and stewardship in both growth (e.g., volume, revenue, market share) and operational management (e.g., expense reduction & efficiency).
