JOB SUMMARY
Acts as the strategic leader responsible for providing the vision of the Claim Division. Provides direct leadership and oversight for all claim adjusting processes for Oregon Mutual. Establishes adjusting policies, responsibilities, and levels of authority. Ensures fair and consistent treatment of all claim personnel and adherence to established claims policies and practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop corporate claim standards, policies, and practices supportive of corporate mission and philosophies.
- Oversee the adjustment of claims in accordance with established standards, policies, and practices.
- Oversee reserve, settlement, and recovery activities, ensuring adequate protection of corporate assets and exposures.
- Establish and manage key performance indicators for the organization and individual adjusters.
- Effectively communicate within department, to the President & CEO, executive staff, board of directors, and external customers.
- Plan and provide for an effective and efficient claims organization.
- Provide for technical and non-technical training of claims staff.
- Control claims adjustment expenses, ensuring optimum cost efficiency.
- Ensure effective management of all claims and claims issues, provide quality management and technical oversight to ensure execution of the claim department’s policies and claim handling philosophy.
- Define outcomes and measures, anticipating and proactively mitigating risk. Operate in adherence to regulatory requirements in Oregon Mutual’s operating jurisdictions. This is to include file quality and DOI compliance regarding claims handling and documentation requirements.
- Manage company assets to support our insurance obligations, and align resources to sustainably achieve our goals and meet member obligations.
- Represent OM by participating in industry, business, and professional organizations.
- Control bad faith losses due to lawsuits.
- Determine staffing needs, hire, train, develop and conduct performance and salary evaluations on Division management staff, and others as necessary.
- Guide and support claims managers in the development of departmental plans and procedures.
- Develop company operational division plans and goals.
- Direct implementation of strategic and operational plans; monitor progress; taking corrective action, when necessary.
- Formulate and manage division budget.
- Drive and facilitate planning and evaluation activities including budgets, forecasts, loss cost calculations, data analytics, setting and adjusting reserves, and effective risk transfer.
- Communicate corporate philosophies, goals, plans and progress.
- Assist with the implementation and communication of personnel programs and policies.
- Manage people, processes, technology, capabilities, and procedures are in place to ensure high productivity and deliver high quality service to our customers.
- Exhibit keen understanding of property and casualty industry practices and trends, and of the competitive landscape.
- Meets agreed upon goals and objectives in a timely manner.
- Arrives to work, meetings, appointments, and other work-related functions on time and as scheduled.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
- Partner with fellow executives in formulating corporation aspiration and vision.
- Serve as a member of various employee and organizational committees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and a minimum of 10 years experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
- Must have demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others and proven track records of employee training and development.
- 15 years of broad insurance experience including experience in Claims leadership and deep claims technical expertise with increasing scope, scale and complexity is required.
- Experience in additional areas of property and casualty insurance work such as customer service, underwriting/risk management, product, sales, and/or data analytics is preferred.
- Insurance professional designations is preferred.
- Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities, and to plan ahead 3-5 years.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office and work-related programs.
- Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Valid State Driver's License and acceptable driving record may be required.
