General Summary
The VFX Production Manager is responsible for the VFX department's operational strategy, overseeing day-to-day operations, and managing production departmental staff. This position works for the Head of VFX Production and works with the department leadership to identify work assignments, create reports, and manage resources. The role represents the management of the VFX department when working with Human Resources, Recruiting, Finance and Producers on all relevant matters. 

Job Functions 

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the VFX production office by working closely with creative supervisors in VFX to create and manage show bids and staffing plans. 
  • Supervise and mentor production supervisors, coordinators and production assistants, across all VFX disciplines, to be productive, proactive, focused, detail oriented, and communicative. 
  • Strategize and manage the overall VFX scheduling and task management, work closely with creative supervisors in VFX to stay on schedule and budget during production, validate progress, identify issues and drive solutions to be implemented. 
  • Manage tracking of production quotas and actuals with the production management team, and create weekly department reports for Head of VFX Production and Producers. 
  • Manage daily communication across VFX and other studio departments to ensure production priorities, objectives and changes are properly communicated, understood and coordinated. Making sure coordinators and production supervisors are on top of their communication. 
  • Report regularly to Head of VFX Production, Producers and Accountants regarding any unanticipated resource requirements and/or expenses. 
  • Oversee department resources including personnel, software, hardware, and facilities. 
  • Oversee VFX hiring and act as point of contact for Recruiting.  
  • Act as point of contact for Post-Production Supervisor and Editorial regarding all department deliverables. 

Qualifications 

  • 7+ years' experience in a production management role in feature film visual effects with strong understanding of live action visual effects workflows. 
  • Deep understanding of all disciplines and processes across CG and VFX production. 
  • General understanding of techniques and methods for a stop motion animated film.  
  • Knowledge of project management software (MS Office).
  • Deep experience with ShotGrid production tracking and asset management database software.
  • Demonstrated planning, problem solving and analytical skills; organized and methodical in approach to work. Demonstrated ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Adaptable under pressure. A positive attitude to problem solving outside of area of experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, great attitude, and work ethic.  
  • Adaptable and capable of re-prioritizing according to evolving project goals.   
  • Demonstrated experience with motivating, mentoring, and leading teams with enthusiasm.
  • Calm and personable under pressure and when working toward tight deadlines within a production driven environment.
