As an Oncology Technician assistant, your job is to assist the oncologist in diagnosing, staging, and treating cancer. The Technician Assistant’s main responsibility is to assist the oncology technician(s) as they administer chemotherapy to patients, while keeping yourself and fellow team members safe. The job also consists of using your knowledge and compassion to educate the client regarding their pet’s diagnosis and treatment. The oncology department’s primary mission is to provide high quality, thoughtful and personal patient care, while meeting the needs of the community through our service.
Responsibilities
- *Assist in acquisition of client/patient histories and patient vitals *Perform basic diagnostic testing *Operate in house hematology and chemistry analyzers (IDEXX) *Perform manual PCV/TS evaluation, and platelet counts *Package send-out samples (IDEXX, CSU, Antec, etc) *Assist the oncologist with physical exams and basic procedures *Assist (and learn!) for venipuncture from different access points (jugular and peripheral veins) and cystocentesis *Assist technician(s) in the placement of clean stick IV catheters *Obtain radiographs *Assist and hold for ultrasounds *Assist with operation of the CT machine *Assist with anesthesia for basic procedures and diagnostic testing *Care for hospitalized and day-admit patients assigned to the Oncology department *Under direct supervision, administer medications via oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous routes *Assist in facilitating discharge of patients to their owners after hospitalization or treatment *Assist for the preparation and administration of chemotherapy *Assist with clinical record keeping, housekeeping, and inventory maintenance
Qualifications
- *Oncology experience is preferred but not required *Two years of experience as a Veterinary Technician Assistant in an emergency, specialty or general practice environment *Positive attitude and collaborative work ethic *Ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous work tasks and work through them efficiently *Desire to remain compliant with OSHA, AAHA, and NIOSH USP 800 practices *Be supportive of low stress animal handling technicians *Ability to be reliable and show up to work on-time, as scheduled *Physical Abilities *Be able to lift 40 lbs without assistance *Be able to safely restrain animals in a sitting, standing and lateral position *Be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time *Be able to properly wear all personal protective equipment for chemotherapy administration

Available shifts and compensation: Available shifts on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Compensation is $18.00 - $30.00/hour.
