Description:
A Government Entity is seeking an Assistant Attorney to join the City's Prosecution team. This position performs entry level legal work through litigation of routine municipal court cases, including legal research and preliminary review of contracts and other legal documents.What You'll Do:
- Prosecute misdemeanor and traffic cases in Municipal Court and appeals in District Court under the direction of the Chief of Prosecution and/or the City Attorney.
- Prepare legal briefs for review.
- Respond to questions from the public and City staff regarding city ordinances, state statutes and city policy.
The ideal candidate:
- Has knowledge of Federal and State statutes and City ordinances.
- Is skilled in legal research.
- Has the ability to prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgement.
- Possesses excellent communication skills with the ability to explain statutes, ordinances, policies and procedures to all levels of the community and organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law in the State of Kansas.
- Up to two years' experience in the legal profession as a licensed attorney.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of computer software and legal research resources.
- Demonstrated experience preparing typed written reports and operating office equipment.
- Must pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license and meet insurability requirements set by the City's insurance carrier.
