About us
Otter Lake Animal Care Center is located at 6848 Otter Lake Road in Hugo, Minnesota. We are 2.3 miles north of County Road J and 0.7 miles south of County Road 14.
The hospital has been under the ownership of Dr. Wayne Scanlan since 1987. Dr. Scanlan is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine. We offer medical and surgical services and boarding for dogs and cats. Dr. Scanlan's interests include Orthopedic Surgery and working with breed rescue groups.
We have another doctor working alongside Dr. Scanlan , Dr. Barb Ault. Dr. Barb works 10am-5pm on Mondays and Fridays as well as 10am-1:30pm on Wednesdays.
We are open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm, as well as 8am-1pm on Saturday's for veterinary care.
We are open from 2pm-4pm on Sunday's for Boarding pickup ONLY! We have designated staff for Sunday shifts.
We are primarily looking for someone to fulfill receptionist duties. Opportunity to learn duties as an assistant may be available in the future.
DUTIES
- Greet and welcome clients and their pets to the veterinary clinic
- Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and assist with client inquiries
- Maintain accurate records of client information, medical history, and treatments
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are clean and stocked with necessary supplies
- Provide basic animal care, including feeding, walking, and monitoring pets in the waiting area
- Perform administrative tasks such as filing paperwork, processing payments, and managing invoices
- Work in a team as well as individually.
- Perform basic cleaning tasks such as sweeping, wiping down counters, and washing surgical tools. *Please note that there will sometimes be bodily fluids to clean up such as blood, urine, or anal gland material.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Availability from 8am-6pm Monday through Wednesday, this is our current job opening for scheduling
- Saturday availability
- Animal experience preferred
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology and procedures preferred
- Excellent communication skills to interact with clients and team members effectively
- Ability to learn how to use veterinary software on computer
Note: While not all skills may be required for the position of Veterinary Receptionist, having knowledge or experience in these areas would be beneficial for the role.
This position can sometimes involve standing for long hours as well as lifting various pets. Sometimes in this line of work we have to deal the difficulty of pet's end of life. A preferred candidate would be able to work in these settings, despite difficulty.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SATURDAY SHIFTS!
We are open from 8am-1pm on Saturday's.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 35 per week
