Veterinary Assistant/ Kennel Assistant

Springfield Emergency Veterinary Hospital at The Regional Veterinary Referral Center is looking for a Veterinary Kennel Assistant, Emergency, Full Time, Set Day & Shift

Position Overview: The Veterinary Kennel Assistant supports and adds value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and exceptional service. This position supports veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment; feeding, and exercising pets; preparing and sanitizing surgery instruments; restraining and handling patients; monitoring the well-being of hospitalized patients; and maintaining patient records.

Hospital Overview: The Regional Veterinary Referral Center is a compassionate, progressive, client centered specialty and referral hospital in Springfield, VA that offers Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Medical & Oncology, Neurology, Rehabilitative Therapy, and Surgery with onsite CATScan, MRI and Radiocat I-131 treatment available.

Essential Functions:

• Triaging patients, obtaining histories and obtaining and recording vital signs.
• Following feeding instructions, monitoring food intake, and documenting bodily functions.
• Assisting veterinarians and technicians with examinations, restraint, diagnostics, digital radiography and medication administration.
• Maintaining cleanliness and sanitization of the hospital, including cages, litter boxes, and food/water bowls, managing laundry, and providing fresh bedding.
• Processing laboratory samples, assisting with outpatient treatments and discharging patients.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must have 1 year experience as a Kennel Assistant or veterinary assistant in a veterinary hospital.
• Preference given to applicants that are interested in going to, or are currently enrolled in Veterinary Technician school.

Position Requirements:

• Ability to work with sick animals, hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
• Flexibility with scheduling, including weekends and holidays.
• Physically demanding work involving lifting, cleaning, and constant motion.
• Depending on the assigned area, tasks may involve prolonged periods at a workstation, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Some tasks may require lifting or carrying moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds).

Shift Availability:

Position is for a fixed day and time, 9.5-hour shift. Holidays will be expected if it falls on your fixed day. We currently have the following shifts available:

• • 4, fixed day, 9.5 hour shifts/ week, 4pm-1:30am, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

Salary: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
