Responsibilities
- Maintain punctual attendance
- Weigh animals
- Clean cages
- Sterilize equipment and clean examination tables and rooms
- Restrain animals during examinations or vaccinations
- Assist with routine exam-room procedures, such as venipunctures, skin scrapings, fine needle aspirates, corneal stains, and ear treatments
- Stock hospital supplies
- Obtain and record patient histories from clients
- Effectively promote preventive health care
- Provide exceptional veterinary care to companion animal patients, while professionally serving clients and pet owners
- Drawing up vaccines and/or injections that doctors will administer
Physical Requirements & Skills:
- Be able to measure and record each patient’s weight, temperature, pulse rate, and respiratory rate
- Have the physical strength and ability to stand for an entire shift when needed, and be able to lift pets and objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Assist in lifting patients weighing more than 50 pounds
- Possess excellent communication skills, the ability to problem solves and handle multiple tasks
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner
- Experience with Idexx and CornerStone software is a plus
- Certificate from a Veterinary Assistant program is a plus
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $13.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 9 – 20 per week
