Osborne Animal Clinic is a fast paced walk-in clinic serving Decatur, Al and the surrounding area. We have been in business since 1979 and are one of the largest practices in the area. We provide high quality care in a friendly and compassionate environment. The Licensed Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Technicians assist the doctor to the fullest possible extent to help improve the quality of care given to the patients.
This position pays upon experience and education.
The Veterinary Technicians:
· helps in the initial examination of the pet and collects pertinent history from the client regarding the pet and relays this information correctly to the doctor.
· restrains animals by correctly and safely holding patient for examination and procedures
· aids in obtaining laboratory samples including blood, feces, and urine
· communicates efficiently and courteously to pet owners
· utilizes Avimark to document medical records and client transactions
· possesses a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases and their signs, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations.
· dispenses and administers medications, vaccines, serums and treatments as prescribed by the doctor
· administers fluids and blood products as prescribed by the doctor
· provides specialized nursing care for injured or ill animals
· takes and processes radiographs
· maintains knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations in order to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, flea and heartworm products, and assists in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, spay and neuter, boarding or daycare.
· educates clients on products and medications sold including dietary products and answers questions regarding product purchase/use.
· works well with all team members and ensures your actions support the clinic, the doctor, and the practice philosophy.
· performs other duties as assigned.
