Job Description
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc (HATCI) is looking for a Vehicle Safety Component Test Technician at our Superior Township, MI facility.
Primary Responsibilities (but not limited to)
- Perform component safety testing using on-site test equipment:
- FMVSS 201u
- FMVSS 226
- Airbag Deployment
- Internal component safety tests
- Pedestrian Protection Impacts (lower leg, upper leg, headform)
- Operation of gas powered cylinder test rig (impact test rig)
- Use 3D Coordinate Measurement Machine(CMM) to map and locate target points
- Use 3D Imaging Laser to collect interior/exterior geometric surface data
- Analyze collected data and prepare reports
- Install test equipment, rigs, and fixtures (assisted and unassisted)
- Prepare instrumentation for testing (accelerometers, LVDT, load cell)
- Identify calibrated equipment for installation
- Assemble instrumentation in standard and non-standard configurations as needed.
- Verify all sensor functionality prior to test.
- Repair damaged and broken instrumentation:
- Diagnose instrumentation issues and determine reparability.
- Solder and splice cables as necessary to repair damaged wires.
- Recommend for replacement as necessary
- Properly document and dispose of non-repairable instrumentation
- Manage regular interval sensor and test equipment calibration (annual or as required)
- Test Data collection
- Manage data acquisition system (DTS), sensors, and equipment
- High Speed Video (Vision Research)
- Still Photography
- Accurate record keeping
- Fabricate fixtures for test equipment not already developed
- Vehicle component strip and build-up (pre and post-test operations)
- For example : trim disassembly and reassembly associated with test
- Other Responsibilities:
- Parts and equipment ordering.
- Maintain shop equipment and tools.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.
- Work cooperatively in a team environment with other technicians and engineers.

Experience and Skills
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)
- Knowledge of European Pedestrian Protection requirements / consumer metric protocols
- Experience working in an automotive development and testing environment
- General instrumentation knowledge of sensors such as accelerometers, LVDT, etc
- Experience with disassembly and reassembly of interior and exterior vehicle components.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior
- General fabrication and/or welding experience
- Vehicle diagnostic skills, reading codes, and troubleshooting vehicle warning lights.
- PC skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Ability to multi-task and meet time constraints.
- Excellent Communication and writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills working in a culturally diverse environment.
- Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Associates Degree, Automotive or Industrial Technology preferred.
- Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
