Vegetable Farmer

The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York is offering a unique, full-time opportunity to create change in your community, while becoming part of a working vegetable farm. We’re looking for a motivated individual to join our team at the Patroon Land Farm, as a Vegetable Farmer, reporting to the Farm Manager. As a Vegetable Farmer you will:

-Properly seed and label seedlings, using the correct flat, date, and variety.

-Water seedlings and plants, as necessary throughout the day.

-Transplant seedlings into the fields, either by hand or using the transplanter.

-Make plant beds, using the bedder and other field preparation, as required.

-Maintain roadways, fences, and fence lines, keeping them clear of foliage and debris.

-Ensure the vegetables are in an environment in which they thrive and grow to their full potential, by removing weeds and maintaining the beds.

-Harvest, wash, pack, and deliver vegetable to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, in Latham.

-Inspect power equipment prior to use. Assist the Farm Manager in ensuring equipment is in proper and safe working condition, and the maintenance of the farm machinery.

-Drive the Farm Refrigerated Box Truck

-Follow all safety standards and procedures.

-Adhere to the Food Bank’s Employee Code of Conduct.

-Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

-Knowledgeable about the various tasks and hard work it takes to operate a farm in all four seasons of the year.

-A lover of the outdoors, who loves to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.

-Looking to make a difference in the community.

A-n independent self-starter, who can also work collaboratively with other departments and employees of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.

-Take pride in maintaining a clean and safe workspace.

Farm Equipment Training: Employees will be trained on driving and utilizing the tractors and skid steer with implements. Some of these implements include, but are not limited to, the tiller, bedder, transplanter, and forks.

The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that collects donated food from the food industry and distributes it to more than 1,000 partners feeding our neighbors in need in 23 counties of northeastern New York. The food provided by the Regional Food Bank helps to feed over 350,000 people each month. In 2023, the Food Bank distributed 48 million pounds of food, enough for 40 million meals. The Regional Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks.

The Patroon Land Farm has provided more than 1.6 million pounds of fresh produce to the Regional Food Bank since 2001.
