UXO Safety Officer (UXOSO) Remote in AK or Pacific Rim
Pay Range: $43 - $48 per hour

What can you expect?
As the UXO Safety Officer (UXOSO) you provide safety oversight for UXO personnel conducting UXO clearances, processing, and documentation of Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) and other contract required explosives related operations.
How will you do it?
You will use your knowledge and related experience to:

  • Develop and implement an approved explosives and UXO health and safety program in accordance with applicable DoD policy and federal, state, and local health and safety statutes, regulations, and codes.
  • Analyzes operational and explosive hazard risks and assists UXO personnel with risk hazard analysis documentation.
  • Implements and enforces all requirements of the Project Work Plan, Accident Prevention Plan and Site Safety and Health Plan.
  • Monitors all aspects of the UXO Clearance activities.
  • Ensures compliance with CFR 1910.120 HAZWOPER and CFR 1910.1200 HAZCOM requirements, as well as state and local environmental safety and environmental requirements.
  • Verifies and enforces personnel limits and safety exclusion zones for explosives related operations. Ensures all protective works and equipment used within the exclusion zone are operated in compliance with all applicable DoD policy, DDESB approvals, and federal, state, and local health and safety statutes, regulations, and codes.
  • Conducts, documents, and reports the results of safety inspections to ensure compliance with all applicable explosives safety policies, standards, regulations, and codes.
  • Monitors and may assist UXO personnel with searching for, gaining access to, identifying, classifying U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs and bomb fuses, projectiles and projectile fuses, grenades and grenade fuses, rockets and rocket fuses, land mines and associated components, pyrotechnic items, military explosives, demolition materials, and the location of subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers.
  • Observes the excavation and recovery of subsurface UXO, construction of UXO-related protective works, the location of surface UXO by visual means, preparation of a UXO disposal site for the disposal of UXO by detonation; the donning and doffing of personal protective equipment, operation of personnel decontamination stations, and maintenance and operator checks of all team equipment assuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Monitors and documents UXO-related safety inspection
  • Observes the segregation of UXO-related scrap from range debris, safe explosive handling procedures, certifies MPPEH as safe for final disposition, team preventive medicine, and field sanitation procedures.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who is Brice Environmental Services looking for?
Required Qualifications:
  • Must have significant experience in all phases of munitions response actions and or range clearance activities.
  • Must be able to perform responsibilities of UXO TIII, TII and TI.
  • Military EOD graduates must have 8 years of progressive EOD/UXO experience.
  • UXO TI Course graduates must have 10 years of progressive UXO experience.
  • Additional training requirements include OSHA 8-hour Management and Supervisor Training course; 10-hour OSHA Construction Safety and Health Training (30-hour accepted and preferred), demonstrate an understanding of Safety practices associated with MEC-related activities, managing and processing MPPEH, including documentation of its explosive's safety status.
  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must pass a Fit for Duty exam by receiving a medically "qualified" fit for duty result letter indicating the employee is medically "qualified" to conduct work activities at the jobsite.
  • Must be willing to travel to various job sites as required.
