What you will be doing:
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Environmental Health seeks an energetic, proactive, and motivated professional to serve as the State Dairy Sanitarian/Produce Safety Specialist in the Office of the State Veterinarian in Anchorage. Under the general direction of the State Veterinarian and the Assistant State Veterinarian, you will work on 3 key programs: dairy, Produce Safety, and animal disease traceability. You will act as the statewide dairy program coordinator for the Grade "A" Dairy Program, working with permitted facilities to collect samples, inspect farms, inspect processing facilities, and conduct testing of pasteurization equipment. You will also be the state specialist on Produce Safety. Outreach and education regarding on-farm food safety practices and risk assessment are a significant component of the Produce Safety program responsibilities, in addition to farm inspections under the Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule. You will also assist with document review of interstate certificates of veterinary inspection, managing distribution of tags, microchips and other animal identification devices, and disseminating information to producers regarding animal health programs and disease traceability.

This position is key to protecting public health, supporting agriculture producers, and ensuring safe and wholesome milk and milk products and fresh produce are sold to the public.

The working environment you can expect:
The Environment Health Laboratory/ Office of the State Veterinarian is in its own building near the U-Med district in Anchorage. There is easy, free parking. It is close to public transportation with sidewalks and access to Far North Bicentennial Park and Campbell Tract trails. The EHL also has bike racks and shower facilities for those that use alternate transportation or take advantage of lunch time exercise (walk, run, ski, bike, etc.). There are many wildlife viewing opportunities right from the office.
