Job description

The Urban Reforestation Associate Director at Corvias Infrastructure Solution, LLC (CIS) will play a critical role in leading and managing a portfolio of projects focused on urban tree planting and reforestation, as well as other nature-based solutions, in cities throughout the United States. Combining data analysis and with a strong understanding of urban forestry and horticulture, this role will help transform cities and suburbs into thriving green spaces that improve quality of life. This is an exciting opportunity to build a program around the fast-growing area of Urban Reforestation, building elements of climate adaptation and mitigation, environmental justice, and community well-being.

The selected candidate will work with external partners in pursuit of regional or national projects that combine policy, planning, implementation, monitoring, and analysis of water quality and other climate issues. This position reports to the Water Equity and Climate Resilience Senior Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute Urban Reforestation programs in collaboration with local governments, community organizations, and volunteers.
  • Prepare concept and final designs/plans, site plans, details, construction drawings, site analysis, and presentation graphics.
  • Select appropriate materials for use in landscape designs, and analyze environmental reports on land conditions, such as drainage and energy usage.
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of reforestation programs, collecting and analyzing data to support program improvement.
  • Where needed, help identify suitable planting locations, assess tree species selection based on site constraints, and ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Develop and deploy the necessary resources to implement the planting, including: a) sourcing the plant/tree material through relationships with suppliers/growers, b) sourcing the transportation of the trees, and c) sourcing the tree planting resource.
  • Lead and supervise field teams during tree planting and maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure the long-term success of reforestation initiatives.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges. Understand metric interdependencies and present actionable recommendations to leaders.
  • Responsible for meeting operations including agenda creation, meeting facilitation, minutes, and follow-up tasks, as necessary.
  • Support internal stakeholders including CIS leadership, Asset Management, Finance and Accounting with their needs for ongoing and ad hoc reporting, budget reviews, site visits, and analyses as needed.
  • Support in communicating our work via reports, presentations, website updates, blog posts, op-eds, and social media posts.
  • Develop and manage an extensive network of contacts with water utilities, government agencies, and consulting and nonprofit/community partners.
  • Identify and participate in industry working groups, associations, and collaborative networks to stay up-to date, gather industry intel, and share CIS’s work.

What You Will Need:

  • Enthusiasm to work within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team comprised of asset managers, engineers, landscape architects, and planners to make positive and impactful change across communities through careful design and implementation of reforestation and other green practices.
  • Motivation to serve underserved communities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, forestry, environmental science, urban planning, landscape architecture, or related field. Graduate degree preferred.
  • 15 years of experience preparing schematic design, design development, and construction documents for various site development projects.
  • ASCA registered, ISA certified -and- also ISA Tree Risk Assessor Qualified is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of tree species selection, planting techniques, and urban forestry best practices.
  • Past experience with clients across the nation is a strong positive. 
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to mitigate risk factors and resolve complex or unforeseen conditions amid tight timelines and high client expectations.
  • Ability to present information and provide concise explanations to internal and external audiences with varying levels of policy acumen.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with management and cross functional teams and establish collaborative relationships internally and externally.
  • Proven ability to manage timelines, delivery, and dependencies in a results-focused environment and influence outcomes without hierarchical authority.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, and AutoCAD is required.
  • Experience using data analysis and visualization software like Stata, R, Python, i-Tree or ArcGIS preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Position Location Requirements

Preference is for candidates located in greater Milwaukee, Seattle, Washington DC, and Ann Arbor regions, but candidates can be remote. The candidate should anticipate approximately 10% travel time throughout the year.

The pay range for this position is $90k to $130k, however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary performance incentive.
