If you need assistance or have questions regarding the application process, please contact Human Resources at (702) 895-3504 or unlvjobs@unlv.edu.Job DescriptionThe University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for *Updated* Electronics Technician II - Fire Safety, Facilities Management [R0139522]ROLE of the POSITIONUnder general supervision, incumbents perform a full range of duties including the testing, maintenance, and repair of Campus Fire/Life Safety Systems while promoting overall professionalism, efficiency, and thoroughness of the Fire Safety Shop. As an Electronics Technician II, the incumbent will serve at a journey level worker, providing assistance to all life/safety systems; the incumbent is also responsible for adhering to safety procedures which include securing the work area and accountability for themselves, tools, and equipment; ensure required documents and records are maintained in accordance with established standards.Incumbent must have the ability to install, inspect, test, repair, and modify fire/suppression systems; install, inspect, test and repair fire system annunciator devices, fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, suppression devices and systems, initiating and reporting devices and associated hardware; and investigate fire alarms, tampers, supervisory, and trouble signals.

On a daily basis, take lead to ensure fire systems and equipment are functioning properly and in accordance with current codes and regulations.Incumbents may work independently and will prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner; maintain an appropriate stock of inventory parts and supplies; determine the most cost effective and efficient method for the repair or replacement of equipment and parts; and work cooperatively with other trades workers. Respond to repair orders; establish priority of repairs; diagnose problems utilizing appropriate tools and test equipment; estimate cost of jobs; acquire materials to complete a job by contacting vendors and/or completing a purchase requisition; make necessary repairs; document time and material costs for billing purposes.Respond to all fire alarms and fire system troubles during work hours and after hours: Investigate all fire alarms and troubles. This involves making contact with the occupants of the specific area (faculty, staff and students) to determine the location and or cause of the problem.

The system shall be acknowledged and or reset as needed when it has been determined to be a non-life threatening incident by the responsible parties on sight or by the LVFD.Fire alarm system troubleshooting and repair: Using standard electrical troubleshooting techniques, identify faulty components and repair or replace as needed. This involves making contact with the occupants of a particular area (faculty, staff, and students) to determine the location and type of problem.Working knowledge of: State and agency policies and procedures pertaining to work unit operations, personnel, and purchasing; State and local building codes NFPA 10, NFPA 12, NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, NFPA 25, NFPA 70 & 70E, NFPA 72, International Fire Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, National Fuel Gas Code, and O.S.H.A. requirements.Schedule is Monday through Friday 7am to 3:30 pm.

Schedule is subject to change depending upon the needs of the university.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAssociate's degree in electronics or closely related field from an accredited college or technical school and two years of experience performing electronic technician work involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical and computerized equipment; OR two years of experience as an Electronics Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.Nevada State Fire Marshall F Certification (Fire Alarm-Protective Signaling Systems), Nevada State Fire Marshall G Certification (Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems) must be obtained within one year of hire date.Requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSNICET Level I (Fire Alarm) certification.COMMITMENT to DIVERSITYThe successful candidate will demonstrate support for diversity, equity and inclusiveness as well as participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment.SALARYGrade 31, Step 1, salary $49,047.12.
